🏆 Leverkusen to Win Outright (Without Bayern Munich)
Leverkusen undeniably caused the greatest shock across Europe’s top leagues last season, ending Bayern’s eleven-year reign as Bundesliga champions. Leverkusen knew they had to remain as close to perfect as possible throughout, and Xabi Alonso’s men did just that, avoiding defeat across the entire season, subsequently winning the league by seventeen points.
As expected, such an incredible season resulted in speculation surrounding the future of Alonso, as well as many key players including Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz. However, as the window has progressed, these rumours have been quashed, with these individuals almost certainly planning on staying put.
In terms of incomings, Leverkusen have recruited well, adding the likes of Aleix Garcia, Martin Terrier and Jeanuel Belocian to the fold. Arguably Leverkusen’s most exciting signing is that of former Girona captain Garcia, who played a critical role in guiding the Catalan side to a shock third place finish in La Liga last season. Meanwhile, the arrival of Terrier, who has netted an average of 12.3 league goals per season across his last three with Ligue 1 side Rennes, has further strengthened Leverkusen’s attacking options.
One side that Leverkusen may need to be wary of is Dortmund, who endured a disappointing domestic campaign last time out. Dortmund, who finished in fifth place, have strengthened since the arrival of new manager Nuri Sahin, snapping up the likes of Serhou Guirassy and Pascal Gross. However, 27 points separated Leverkusen and Dortmund last season, and with Xabi Alonso’s new acquisitions and Sahin’s managerial inexperience, it seems very unlikely that Dortmund will challenge Leverkusen this term.
Leverkusen will be hoping to retain their Bundesliga title; however, Bayern will almost certainly put up a greater fight this time around. Thus, the ‘betting without Bayern’ market provides an excellent angle, with a price of 1.62 available.

4️⃣ Borussia Dortmund to finish in the top 4
Despite ending the season as Champions League runners-up, it is fair to say that Dortmund’s domestic campaign was far from special last season, with Edin Terzic leading his men to a fifth place finish.
As a result, Dortmund have replaced Terzic with one of his assistants, Nuri Sahin. Although Sahin only possesses around two years of managerial experience, the former Antalyaspor manager has been well-backed by Dortmund’s board due to his knowledge of the club, as well as his managerial qualities.
Following a chaotic campaign, the club have made plenty of positive changes throughout the transfer window. The three most significant departures include those of Mats Hummels, Marco Reus and Niclas Fullkrug; however, effective recruitment has seen the arrival of exciting replacements including Yan Couto, Waldermar Anton, Pascal Gross, and Serhou Guirassy. All involved at Dortmund will be hopeful that Guirassy, who netted 28 league goals in 28 appearances for Stuttgart last term, can have another remarkable campaign in the German top-flight.
With a top four finish for Leverkusen and Bayern seeming very likely, Dortmund will most probably be competing with Stuttgart and Leipzig for the remaining two spaces. Ten points separated Stuttgart and Dortmund last season; however, as two of Stuttgart’s key players, Anton and Guirassy, have made the switch to Dortmund, we can expect to see a much-improved Dortmund, as well as a weaker Stuttgart side. Meanwhile, it has been a fairly quiet window for Leipzig, with Marco Rose’s side failing to make any significant improvements so far.
Ultimately, although they underwent a poor 2023/24 league campaign, Dortmund finished just two points behind fourth-place Leipzig, and with their excellent recruitment, we can expect Sahin’s men to go at least one better this season, finishing inside the top four.
4️⃣ Borussia Dortmund to finish in the top 4
⬇️ Bochum to be Relegated
Bochum had a very difficult 2023/24 campaign, finishing just six points above the automatic relegation zone. VfL were fortunate to avoid relegation, narrowly scraping past second division outfit Fortuna Dusseldorf on penalties in the relegation/promotion playoff.
Although interim coach Heiko Butscher fulfilled his objective of keeping Bochum up, the club have replaced him with Peter Zeidler. Although Zeidler has a reasonable amount of experience, Bochum’s new man rarely exceeded expectations in his recent role at St. Gallen, finishing outside of the Swiss Super League’s top four in three of the last four seasons.
Following their disappointing campaign, Bochum have struggled to retain key players including Kevin Stöger and Keven Schlotterbeck – both of whom played a significant role in last season’s survival mission. Stöger, who accumulated sixteen league goal contributions last season, will be a huge miss, and with Bochum’s lack of attacking incomings, it is difficult to see who will fill his void. Moritz Broschinski, who has started in Bochum’s last two pre-season outings, looks set to replace Stöger; however, the German striker is far from proven at this level and only scored twice across his 26 Bundesliga appearances last season.
Two other favourable relegation candidates are newcomers St. Pauli and Kiel. Initially, the departure of former St. Pauli manager Fabian Hurzeler to Brighton provided reason for concern; however, the club appear to have replaced him effectively, recruiting Alexander Blessin from USG – who guided the Belgian side to winning the Pro League last season. Thus, while it seems very likely that Kiel will be well-involved in next season’s relegation battle, the same cannot be said for St. Pauli, who look relatively strong coming into the season.
Ultimately, there is little evidence that vouches for Bochum’s survival this season, and an excellent price of 3.50 is provided for this selection.

⬇️ Holstein Kiel to be Relegated
In his second full season at the club, manager Marcel Rapp successfully guided his men to a second place finish in the 2. Bundesliga last term, meaning that Holstein Kiel will be playing Bundesliga football for the first time in the club’s history this season. Despite their impressive campaign, it is worth noting that Rapp’s side, who led with two games remaining, let things slip towards the end, resulting in St. Pauli pipping them to the title by one point.
Kiel have taken an interesting approach to the transfer window, with the club seemingly opting to trust the quality of their existing squad. Unfortunately for Rapp, the club have been unable to keep hold of key players Tom Rothe and Philipp Sander – both of whom have joined more established Bundesliga sides, forcing Kiel into having to find replacements, signing Magnus Knudsen, Armin Gigovic and Tymoteusz Puchacz.
Not only will this be the first season in the Bundesliga for the club as a whole, but it will also be the first for the vast majority of Kiel’s squad, and this lack of experience is very concerning. Last season’s star man Lewis Holtby is Kiel’s only squad member that has made more than 30 appearances in the German top flight, and the most recent of these was in 2018, raising concerns surrounding whether he still possesses the quality to excel at this level.
Besides Bochum, the other sides that the bookmakers expect to be involved in the relegation battle, such as St. Pauli and Heidenheim, look well geared up to steer clear of the drop this season, and it looks set to be a tough ride in uncharted territory for the inexperienced Kiel.
