📈 Celtic v Stuttgart Form & Tactics

Amid a chaotic campaign, Celtic were led by no fewer than three different managers across their eight league phase assignments. Most notably, current boss Martin O’Neill oversaw the bulk of Celtic’s success, with seven of their 11 Europa League points earned under his guidance.

The Hoops have been a winning machine under the legendary Celtic boss in the Scottish Premiership this season, with Sunday’s dramatic 3-2 win over Kilmarnock taking his record across both stints in charge this season to 10 wins and one draw. As a result, Celtic sit 3rd in the table, just three points off the top with a game in hand.

Celtic failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their eight league phase matches, conceding multiple goals in three of their four home games.

Each of Celtic’s last six Europa League outings has featured over 2.5 goals, with both teams scoring in all but one of those contests.

After coming away empty-handed from two of their opening three league phase assignments, Stuttgart responded strongly to take top honours from four of their five fixtures thereafter. Despite their points haul of 15, it wasn't enough to bypass the play-off round as they finished 11th in the Europa League standings.

On the domestic front, Stuttgart ended the weekend 4th in the Bundesliga after scoring two late goals to secure a 3-1 win over Koln. That latest victory means Sebastian Hoeness’ side have won six of their last nine league games, losing only once across that stretch, so they will arrive in Glasgow in fine fettle.

Stuttgart were one of the most ill-disciplined teams during the league phase, picking up 21 yellow cards across their eight matches.

Only Lille (53) and Bologna (62) earned more corners than Stuttgart (51) during the league phase.

📔 Celtic v Stuttgart Formation & Team News

Across his two spells as interim manager this season, Martin O’Neill has made use of a 4-3-3 formation more often than not.

Kelechi Iheanacho has returned to first team training and is edging closer to a comeback, but Alistair Johnston, Arne Engles, Callum Osmand, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota remain sidelined.

January signings Julian Araujo, Junior Adamu and Tomas Cvancara have been added to Celtic’s Europa League squad and can feature on Thursday night, but fellow new arrivals Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Benjamin Arthur and Joel Mvuka have not been registered and are, therefore, ineligible.

VfB Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness typically lines his side up in a fluid 4-2-3-1 formation.

The visitors will be without injured trio Dan-Axel Zagadou, Justin Diehl and Lazar Jovanovic. On a brighter note, both Luca Jaquez and Nikolas Nartey are back in contention after missing Saturday’s 3-1 win over Koln.
