The Steve Cotterill revolution faces its toughest test so far as promotion chasing Notts County come to visit the snappily named EV Charger Points Stadium.

Fresh from another win, this time dumping Bradford out of the FA Cup, confidence is high around Cheltenham, but County have been on a decent League Two run and will want a win to cement an automatic promotion challenge.

Alassana Jatta to Score Anytime

Notts County are odds on to win this match, a price that I am on board with in theory, just perhaps not enough to back in this bet.

It seems fairly clear in the underlying numbers that Cheltenham's revival under Steve Cotterill is built mainly on luck, vibes, and individual moments of quality. These may keep going in this match, because often these things do come in runs, and new manager bounce can be a thing, but I am seeing little to suggest that a potential long term impact and improvement has been made at this stage.

I think that Notts have a good chance of winning this match, and if they do, then the most obvious route to goal will be through the Gambian. He has scored in their last three matches, four goals in total, and yet is a much bigger price than Matthew Dennis. Jatta is too good for the level, but has taken his time to reintegrate into the team following a disastrous end to last season.

He is scoring at a rate of 0.46 per 90 this season and he scored at 0.55 per 90 last season as well, he is rounding into typical form nicely. I think the price gives better value than the match price.

Over 8.5 Corners

This is a bit of a funny one from a corners perspective.

Neither team is actually that strong at winning corners, but both teams concede a lot of them.

Cheltenham have played seven home matches in the league, and they have won five, six, and 12 corners in three of the matches, but failed to clear three corners won in the others, so they blow hot and cold. This line could be won based on them winning a low number of corners, though, because they give away an average of 5.43 corners per home match.

County also give away corners. Away from home, they give away an average of 5.71 per 90, including 12 to Barnet, eight to Crewe, and eight to Tranmere.

Between them, they give away over 11 corners per 90, so having a line set at 8.5 does give a little wiggle room for this to come in.

📈 Cheltenham v Notts County Form & Stats

Cheltenham are currently sitting in 20th place, but this will seem like huge progress to them considering that when Steve Cotterill was appointed, they were looking already fairly cut adrift in the two-team relegation zone at the bottom of League Two.

Three wins and a draw in their last four league games, followed by a 1-0 win over League One high-flyers Bradford City in the FA Cup, means that Cotterill has this group of players singing beautifully on key right now.

The question is, can this last? As per Cheltenham’s xG ratio, their expected goals for versus their expected goals against, they have the worst ratio in League Two, even over the last five games, in which they have been so good from a results perspective.

Notts County are four unbeaten in the league, but they have been knocked out of two competitions since then. Brackley Town dumped them out of the FA Cup on penalties, and then they lost to Man Utd U21s and are out of the EFL Trophy as well. It is the league that matters to them, though, and they will be keen to gather more points to maintain their automatic promotion challenge - they are only two points off top spot as things stand.

Notts are quite deserving of their top six placing from a performance perspective too. Their expected points and xG ratio both have Notts in the top six, as well as their points gathering. They have the second best xG against record in the league, they are one of only two teams to concede less than 1xG per match, alongside Cambridge.
