🔵 How Good are Club Brugge?
Club Brugge seems to have found it tough to navigate their congested opening schedule, which saw them compete in eight matches in August alone.
Ultimately, it would seem that UCL qualification was the priority, culminating in a series of impressive results: four wins, no losses, and 13-3 on aggregate across those clashes with RB Salzburg and Rangers.
Although far from disastrous, things haven’t gone quite as swimmingly in the league, where Club Brugge sit in 4th with three wins, a draw, and two losses.
They’ve picked up a single point from their last two games, albeit the stats tell a different story. Nicky Hayen’s side generated 1.5xG more than their opponents in both matches, carving out six big chances while allowing none at the other end.
🔴 How have Monaco Started their Campaign?
For those of you who enjoy the Premier League, Monaco’s lineup might ring a few bells, with Balogun, Minamino, Kehrer, Salisu, Bireth, Dier, and even Paul Pogba now calling the Stade Louis II home.
Monaco are only four matches into their domestic campaign, having produced a mixed bag of performances so far. Adi Hütter’s side just about edged it against Strasbourg and Auxerre in their last two matches, scoring last-minute winners against 10-man opposition in both.
On the balance of play, those results were probably merited; in fact, their clash with Lille represents their only real struggle so far. Monaco had spent most of the evening camped in their own half before Giroud finally found a way through in stoppage time, sealing a deserved win for Lille, who had racked up just shy of 3xG over the 90 minutes.
📊 How Do Club Brugge and Monaco Compare?
The last meeting between Club Brugge and Monaco came back in the 2018 Champions League group stage. The first clash in Belgium finished 1-1, with Brugge enjoying 59% possession and managing five shots on target - three more than the visitors.
The return leg at the Louis II told a very different story. Despite seeing only 36% of the ball, Club Brugge were ruthlessly efficient. They fired off just seven shots all game, with six of those hitting the target, and four finding the back of the net, sealing a stunning 4-0 win.
