Despite it being a Champions League night, there is plenty of EFL action with the Midlands Derby between Coventry and Birmingham undoubtedly the pick of the bunch. The game is being shown live on Sky Sports and with a bumper crowd expected at the CBS Arena I am expecting a thrilling game between these two great rivals. Mark Robins continues to work wonders at the helm and has now taken the club to two promotions in four years and who knows, the way things are going this season he could even lead them to back to the promised land of the Premier League!
The return to Coventry after a number of years playing their home games ‘away’ with a season in Northampton and a number of seasons in Birmingham has been met with sheer jubilation. They look a club on the up and continue to achieve way beyond expectations. They sit 5th going into tonight and could move as high as 3rd with a win if other results go their way. Their home form has been outrageously good too and alongside Fulham have the best home record in the division with 22 points accumulated from a possible 27 and I fancy them to do the job once more against an injury-hit Birmingham City.
Gustavo Hamer to be Carded
Fantastic little player this lad and he has been a revelation at Coventry since joining from Dutch club PEC Zwolle in the summer of last year. His combative style off the ball, mixed with his undoubted technical ability and range of passing on it has seen him linked with a January move to a number of clubs- most notably Rangers.
His Cheat Sheet stats certainly tell a lot of the story here don’t they? He ranks highly on fouls committed and also has racked up a massive 8 yellow cards already this season! That actually sees him as the outright most booked player in the Championship this season. I was astonished to see him not ranked amongst the favourites for a yellow and at the time of writing he is a massive price of 3.75 for a booking. Outstanding value and he is without doubt the best pick in what should hopefully be a feisty Midlands Derby tonight.
Over 1.5 Goals
Cov games are full of goals, particularly when playing at home when they play with such confidence and exuberance. They have given a number of good sides an absolute whacking at the CBS, most notably Fulham back in October who they battered by a 4-1 scoreline. Over 1.5 goals has delivered in 8 of their 9 home league fixtures this season and I fully expect this one to follow suit in what should be an entertaining game this evening!
