MK Dons have a mountain to climb to make a Wembley play-off final for the first time, at the sixth attempt, following a 3-0 first leg loss away to Crawley. Therefore, this places Saturday’s away side as strong favourites to progress in the tie, however, manager Scott Lindsey insists there is still work to be done.
The two legs had to be rearranged earlier in the week after a waterlogged pitch at Crawley’s Broadfield Stadium on Monday. The West Sussex club reacted well to these quick developments to put them in a commanding position going to Milton Keynes on Saturday night.

⚔️ MK Dons v Crawley Head-to-Head
While a score of 3-0 may have surprised many, the outcome shouldn’t necessarily have done so based upon the season head-to-head record involving these two teams. On all three occasions, the home team has come out on top, offering some hope to MK Dons of turning this around.
The third match of the league campaign saw Crawley claim a 2-1 triumph back in August; scoring either side of half time in the process. Then, four days following Christmas Day, revenge would be had as MK secured a 2-0 win in front of their supporters, which included scoring inside two minutes.
📊 MK Dons Form and Stats
Following Tuesday’s defeat, manager Mike Williamson felt their performance didn’t reflect their usual standards. While he may have felt that way, he might feel a little unfortunate to depart with a 3-0 loss based upon the xG. The figures finished 1.19-1.03 in favour of the losing team, so Crawley’s ruthlessness in front of goal proved pivotal – having been helped by two deflections and a goalkeeping error.
A big reaction is to be expected back at Stadium MK, where the Dons are often so hard to beat. Only top-two Stockport and Wrexham achieved more League Two home points in the regular season. In their previous six here alone they’ve averaged 3.16 goals for, which is further evidence they aren’t out of the tie just yet.
52.63% of those goals would arrive within the first 30 minutes. Given they’d ideally need an early goal to give them a realistic chance of making Wembley, a price of 2.50 on Paddy Power for the hosts to be leading at 30 minutes merits consideration. In addition to this, Paddy Power have priced Williamson’s men to open the scoring at 1.50. They have to play on the front foot from the very off, which is no problem given this is how they generally approach games, particularly at home.

📊 Crawley Form and Stats
For only the fifth time all season, Crawley beat their opposition by a three-goal margin or greater in the first leg. This is their first-ever play-off mission and they already have one foot in a Wembley final for a place in League One on May 19th.
They wouldn’t have travelled to Stadium MK in much fear even if the score had been much closer. Scott Lindsey’s side actually have a bottom-half home record in the division, but on the road they’re top-five. Town have achieved a 60% winning record in away encounters played since the start of February.
On the flip side, they haven’t always impressed when making the trip to the best teams in the league. They’ve won away at promoted Mansfield and drew at champions Stockport, however, Crawley lost away to top seven sides Wrexham, Doncaster, Crewe and MK Dons; failing to score in three of those. Only once have they lost by three or more goals away; 6-0 to Swindon in August.
Attacking midfielder Klaidi Lolos has netted in each of Crawley’s last three away fixtures. He can be backed at 4.0 on Betfair to find the back of the net once more on the road.
💰 MK Dons v Crawley Best Bets
The big question is how Crawley will approach this in the early stages. Do they play as if it is 0-0? Do they sit back given they have a 3-0 lead? No matter what they do, MK Dons will look to start at a high tempo and bag an early goal, which has been a common trend in recent home games. They’re comfortably the highest home league scorers inside the opening 30 minutes of matches. The game plan for the hosts will be clear from the off and Crawley can expect to come under some significant early pressure.
