Crystal Palace will be targeting back-to-back wins in the Europa Conference League when they face AEK Larnaca at Selhurst Park on Thursday night.

The Eagles hit the ground running in Europe’s third tier competition, by claiming a 2-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv in Poland. However, Oliver Glasner’s team have not tasted victory since then, losing 2-1 at Everton before playing out a barnstorming 3-3 draw with Bournemouth.

AEK Larnaca also made a winning start to their Europa Conference League campaign by defeating Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar 4-0 in Cyprus.

These Crystal Palace v AEK Larnaca Betting Stats also offer further insight ahead of Thursday's clash at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace to have 7+ Shots on Target

In what looks like a bit of a mismatch, I think a minimum of seven shots on target should be well within range for Crystal Palace on Thursday night. The Eagles flexed their muscles on matchday one against Dynamo Kyiv, winning the shot count 13-9, with a sizeable seven of those attempts hitting the target.

In terms of the Premier League, Oliver Glasner’s side have averaged 5.38 on-target efforts per game across their opening eight games of the season. Moreover, Palace have hit the target exactly seven times in each of their last two top-flight home games, against Bournemouth and Liverpool.

Given that AEK Larnaca will represent far inferior opposition to the above-mentioned duo, Palace look well placed to deliver another seven on-target efforts here. What’s more, the Yellow-Greens were soundly beaten 4-2 by Pafos in a recent Cypriot First Division clash, giving up nine shots on target during that game.

Over 2.5 Goals

While Crystal Palace are a team that I wouldn't associate with goal-heavy games, I’m prepared to look beyond that here given the gulf in quality between the two teams. In fact, I think Oliver Glasner’s side are more than capable of covering the over 2.5 goal line on their own during this contest.

As already mentioned, AEK Larnaca were outclassed when crashing to a 4-2 defeat at home to Pafos in a recent Cypriot First Division clash, and Palace will represent a step up in class.

The visitors’ defensive shortcomings were also clear to see during their bid to reach the Europa League, failing to keep a clean sheet in seven of their eight outings. What’s more, five of those qualifiers featured over 2.5 goals, including each leg of Larnaca’s play-off tie with Brann.

In fact, Brann cruised to a 6-1 aggregate victory in that tie, so Palace should be more than capable of winning with room to spare at Selhurst Park on Thursday night.

Jean-Philippe Mateta to Score or Assist

Jean-Philippe Mateta looks like the obvious candidate to side with in the to score or assist market on Thursday night. The French forward will come into this clash on an extraordinary high after scoring a hat-trick against Bournemouth last time out.

That means Mateta has now netted seven goals across his 13 appearances in all competitions this season. One of those strikes came against Fredrikstad during a Europa Conference League qualifier at Selhurst Park, so there is plenty of scope for the in-form Palace forward to repeat the trick against AEK Larnaca.

Imanol Idiakez’s side have been leaking goals at an alarming rate when on continental duty this season, and I think it would be fair to say that Crystal Palace will represent their toughest test of the season to date. As such, the aforementioned Mateta looks the prime candidate to exploit the visitors’ defensive vulnerability.

Daichi Kamada to be Fouled 1+ Times

Daichi Kamada is a player who always finds himself in the thick of the action in the midfield battleground, making the Crystal Palace man an appealing option to earn his team one or more free-kicks during this contest.

Only Ismaila Sarr (2.69) has drawn a higher average of fouls per game than Kamada (1.71) across the early stages of Crystal Palace’s Europa Conference League campaign. What’s more, the Japan international has also been brought down on a regular basis in this season's Premier League, earning his team an average of 1.88 free-kicks per 90. A deeper dig shows that Kamada has been fouled in each of his six top-flight outings this term, including on three separate occasions against Bournemouth last Saturday.

AEK Larnaca have been involved in a number of fiery games this season, so they may have no choice but to revert to the game’s dark arts here to try and contain what is a superior Crystal Palace side. As such, Kamada looks like a strong contender to be on the receiving end of at least one foul on Thursday night.

📈 Crystal Palace v AEK Larnaca Form & Tactics

Crystal Palace have made a solid, rather than spectacular, start to their Premier League season, posting three wins, four draws and one defeat to date. Interestingly, three of those four stalemates have come at Selhurst Park, including Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Bournemouth.

After conceding just three goals over their opening six Premier League games of the season, Crystal Palace have shipped a combined total of five strikes across their last two top-flight fixtures.

Palace have averaged a lowly 3.63 corners per game in this season’s Premier League. It’s also worth noting that the Eagles earned just four flag kicks during their aforementioned 2-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv.

Oliver Glasner’s hosts have been one of the more card-heavy teams in this season’s Premier League, averaging 2.25 bookings per 90. What’s more, Palace picked up two yellow cards and one red card when defeating Dynamo Kyiv on matchday one.

AEK Larnaca currently find themselves occupying 5th place in the Cypriot First Division, five points adrift of league leaders Pafos. That being said, Imanol Idiakez’s side have won three of their last four league games, the most recent of which was a 2-0 victory away at Paralimni.

While AEK Larnaca claimed an eye-catching 4-0 win over AZ Alkmaar on matchday one, the Dutch side were reduced to 10 men just two minutes into that contest. It’s also worth noting that three of the Yellow-Greens’ eight Europa League qualifiers earlier this season featured a red card. What’s more, there have been a combined total of three red cards across AEK Larnaca’s opening seven matches in this season’s Cypriot top-flight.

AEK Larnaca have only failed to score in one of their seven Cypriot First Division matches this season, while they have blanked in just one of their nine continental contests this term.

📔 Crystal Palace v AEK Larnaca Formation & Team News

Oliver Glasner is well known for setting his Crystal Palace side up with a well-structured 3-4-2-1 formation. The Eagles are a very effective counter-attacking team and they also carry a threat from set pieces.

Borna Sosa will serve a one-game suspension after receiving a red card against Dynamo Kyiv on matchday one, while Caleb Kporha, Chadi Riad and Cheick Doucoure are all on the injury list. With fixtures coming thick and fast, Glasner is expected to shuffle his pack on Thursday night.

AEK Larnaca boss Imanol Idiakez favours a 4-3-3 formation, though it can change to a 4-2-3-1 system, depending on the level of opposition.

The visitors will be without the services of injured trio Angel Garcia, Enzo Cabrera and Kewin Komar. Karol Angielski should remain in the squad after returning from a spell on the sidelines as a late substitute during Sunday’s 2-0 success at Paralimni.
