Dundee United Double Chance @ 1.51

I was surprised to see Dundee United priced up as the outsiders here, so much so that I’m more than happy to back the visitors to avoid defeat at Dens Park on Sunday. I was impressed with Jim Goodwin’s new-look side when watching them first hand against Falkirk earlier this month, and they have since pushed Rapid Vienna all the way in a Europa Conference League third round qualifier, drawing both legs of that tie 2-2. While United have lost to Hearts and Kilmarnock in recent weeks, both of those matches followed a quick turnaround from a taxing midweek, but that will not be the case here.

Yes, there is no denying that Dundee boss Steven Pressley has steadied the ship thanks to a pair of impressive draws away from home against Rangers and Kilmarnock, but I suspect the Dark Blues will have to wait a while longer for a maiden league win of the season.

Vicko Sevelj to be Carded @ 2.80

This is one of my favourite fixtures on the Scottish football calendar as sparks tend to fly - and I would expect that to be the case again during Sunday’s showdown. A case could be made for a number of players to pick up a card during this contest, with Dundee United’s Vicko Sevelj looking like a strong contender.

The tough-tackling Terrors midfielder has been booked in each of his two Scottish Premiership appearances this season and he also collected a caution across one of his team’s four Europa Conference League qualifiers. Sevelj was also a frequent offender for Dundee United last season, racking up 11 yellow cards across his 40 appearances in all competitions.

The touch of insurance offered with SBK’s Fresh Legs feature only adds to the appeal of siding with this selection.

🔵 Pressley Easing The Pressure

After getting his tenure as Dundee boss underway with back-to-back defeats to lower league opposition, Steven Pressley has eased some of the early-season pressure that he was under.

While the Dark Blues lost their opening Scottish Premiership game of the season when hosting Hibs, they have since picked up a point from each of their two subsequent away games with Rangers and Kilmarnock.

Dundee will consider themselves extremely unfortunate not to have defeated Rangers at Ibrox after being denied a famous victory by a dubious penalty in the dying embers of the game.

The hosts have looked a little toothless during the early weeks of the campaign, registering a combined total of four on-target efforts across their first three Scottish Premiership matches of the season.

🟠 Dundee United a Work-in-Progress

Following their summer overhaul, Dundee United are very much a work-in-progress. However, there have been some early signs of encouragement, particularly on the goalscoring front, with the Terrors scoring multiple goals in four of their last five matches across all competitions.

On the flip side, Jim Goodwin’s team have conceded two goals or more in each of their last five outings, losing both the xG battle and the shot count in each of their opening two Scottish Premiership matches of the season.

Dundee United have picked up eight yellow cards across their first two Scottish Premiership matches of the season, including five in their previous away game at Falkirk.

📊 Dundee v Dundee United H2H

Dundee and Dundee United went toe-to-toe in the top-flight of Scottish football for the first time since season 2021-22 last term. Each team picked up a victory away from home while the other encounter was a pulsating 2-2 draw at Tannadice on the opening weekend of the season.

It’s also worth noting that the pair squared off in last season’s Scottish Cup, with Dundee claiming a 1-0 victory at this venue.

Dundee talisman Simon Murray scored in three of the four meetings between the fierce foes last season, including each of the last three.
