France are hosting Scotland at the Decathlon Arena (Stade Pierre-Mauroy) on Tuesday evening in an international friendly. Both teams have secured their spots at Euro 2024 in Germany with France sitting at the top of their group, unbeaten from six games, and Scotland securing qualification on Sunday evening courtesy of Spain beating their closest challengers Norway.
France sealed their spot at next year’s Finals after defeating Netherlands 2-1 at the Johan Cruyff Arena, with star man Kylian Mbappe bagging a brace despite it being Friday the 13th – he is clearly not one for superstitions. Les Bleus have won eight out of their last ten and currently sit in second place in the FIFA rankings.
The Tartan Army lost their last qualifying game against Spain, but that does not matter to them now. After Spain beat Norway on Sunday evening the fans all over the world have been celebrating – Andy Robson included.
Despite this being a friendly game, it should still be a spectacle for football fans worldwide. We’re on the lookout for fouls, corners and goals, all of which will be covered in this article using the France v Scotland Cheat Sheet. The standout stats will then be pulled from this Cheat Sheet and analysed with a betting angle. You don’t want to miss out…

Enough of the build-up, here’s our breakdown.
France stats: Chances for others to step into the spotlight
France have averaged 2.14 goals per game over the last calendar year, and have found the net in all of their last ten matches. Didier Deschamps will be hoping that some other players can step up against the Scots with the likelihood that Kylian Mbappe is rested.
Given France are unbeaten at home since June 2022, they should be expected to bag some goals against Scotland. Olivier Giroud will be the attacking focal point for Les Bleus – he secured a brace last time he played against Scotland, though it was back in 2016.
Scotland stats: Set pieces worth a look against World Cup finalists
Scotland have been averaging four corners per game over the last calendar year, a stat which drops to three per outing when looking at only the games they have played away from home. Their two most recent games were against Spain (A) and England (H), where they recorded just one corner in each.
On the other hand, France have seemingly made corners an important feature of their game. Over the last calendar year, Les Bleus have been averaging 5.14 corners per match, and most recently took six in their last home game against the Republic of Ireland. If you fancy France to dominate corners, why not have a look at the “Corner Match Bet” market, where France are priced at 1.25 to take more corners than the Tartan Army.
🎯 France Offensive Stats: Forget Mbappe, this is Griezmann’s team
Griezmann has been on fire for club and country for many years now. He has scored in four of his last five games for Atletico Madrid, including a nice overhead kick against Feyenoord in the Champions League.
So far this season, across all competitions, the French forward has averaged 0.4 goals per game, taking over two shots in each game he plays. The last time he played for France, Griezmann played in a deeper role in midfield but still created plenty in the attacking third; laying on five chances. He is expected to play in a more advanced role against Scotland and is therefore great value to score or assist.
🎯 Scotland Offensive Stats: McTominay reborn
Scott McTominay has displayed attacking qualities that Man United supporters were not aware of in Scotland’s march to Euro 2024 qualification. Team-mate John McGinn claims that McTominay has the “Fernando Torres haircut”, meaning he is scoring striker’s goals and, given his recent record, he may just be right.
In the Euro qualifiers, McTominay leads as Scotland’s top goalscorer having bagged six goals in six appearances. This record has also recently been reflected in his performances for United, scoring two goals in the space of four minutes to pull off a dramatic 2-1 win v Brentford.
He is certainly playing with confidence and he can be expected to continue this form against France on Tuesday evening. He is priced at 2.63 to have just one shot on target, or 6/1 to find the back of the net again.
🛑 France Defensive Stats: Theo Hernandez is in for a tough battle
Theo Hernandez has the task of defending against John McGinn, who is expected to start on the right of midfield for the Tartan Army. McGinn has a high career average of 2.34 fouls drawn per match and has suffered at least two fouls in four of his last five outings.
Hernandez has been committing a high number of fouls and has a career average of 0.96 fouls per game. When representing France in the Euro qualifiers this average rises to 1.17 fouls. He has also picked up the highest amount of yellow cards for France in those qualifying games (two from six games). You can back him to commit a foul against Scotland at 1.25.
🛑 Scotland Defensive Stats: Aaron Hickey v two speedsters
Brentford’s Aaron Hickey is set to be defending against Malo Gusto and Ousmane Dembele, no easy task. Gusto has averaged 0.93 fouls drawn this season, utilising quick bursts of speed to make 2.45 progressive runs per match, and often suffering fouls as a result. The story is similar for Dembele, who has drawn 1.17 fouls so far this season, with an impressive average of 8.18 progressive runs per game.
This could prove to be too much for Hickey and may lead to him committing a foul to stop a potential counter-attack. The 21-year-old has been averaging at least a foul a game for Scotland and he is one of the most likely candidates for a foul against a high class forward line.
