Over 1.5 Goals

The two meetings between these sides last season produced eight goals as Fulham came away winners on both occasions.

Harry Wilson’s late show secured the three points against Brentford in this fixture last season with both strikes coming after the 92nd minute and Fulham relied on Wilson again to get them the winner when the sides met at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Brentford have seen 2+ goals in five of their six matches across all competitions this season with this selection landing in all three of their away matches in the Carabao Cup and Premier League. The only game in which it failed to land was against Aston Villa who are the only side yet to score a Premier League goal this season.

Fulham have seen 2+ goals in three of their four Premier League matches so far this season. Notably, the Cottagers only kept five clean sheets in the Premier League last season so goals can be expected when Fulham take to the field.

Brentford to Commit 11+ Fouls

If you followed Brentford last season then you will be aware that they didn’t tend to commit many fouls. In fact, only Manchester City committed fewer fouls than Brentford last season (8.40 per game) which is a surprise given the contrast in the two styles of play under Frank and Guardiola.

However, this average has leaped up to 12.8 fouls committed per game across the opening four games of the season. This is a smaller sample size, but having watched Brentford on a few occasions this season it’s clear that there is an instruction to be more aggressive off the ball from Keith Andrews.

This doesn’t mean that Brentford will become an intense pressing team overnight but it should result in a small increase in the Bees’ foul numbers from last season. Fulham drew 10 fouls from Brentford in this fixture last season so they were already able to force a rise in Brentford’s foul numbers from last season without the change we’ve seen in the early parts of this campaign.

Brentford have committed 11+ fouls in each of their four Premier League matches this season, at no point last season did Brentford have four games in a row in which they committed 11 or more fouls.

Brentford GK to Make 3+ Saves

The early signs this season are that Kelleher is going to be one of the busiest keepers in the Premier League. This isn’t totally surprising seeing as his predecessor, Mark Flekken, made more saves than any other keeper last season and also ended the campaign with the joint highest save percentage (73.5%).

This tells us that Brentford were already conceding a lot of shots on their goal and relying on their keeper to bail them out. Now that the Bees are without Wissa, Mbeumo and Norgaard, it will mean that there are fewer moments of relief between the barrage of shots that the West London side face which could impact their results, especially on the road.

Flekken was forced into making 10 saves in this fixture last season which is a perfect example of the issue that Brentford may face. Kelleher has made nine saves across his four Premier League appearances this season (2.25 per 90) with his most notable performance coming last time out against Chelsea as he made four saves.

Yehor Yarmoliuk to Commit 1+ Fouls

Yarmoliuk has committed seven fouls across his four Premier League appearances this season (1.81 per 90) and sits at the heart of a Brentford side that look like they’re going to commit a lot more fouls this season under the direction of Keith Andrews.

Yarmoliuk committed 19 fouls across his 15 Premier League starts last season (1.19 per 90) but we should see a slight increase in this average this campaign seeing as the Ukrainian has nailed down a more consistent starting spot in the side with the Bees being more aggressive as an outfit than they were under Thomas Frank last season.

Yarmoliuk didn’t feature in this fixture last season but Brentford committed 10 fouls in the game with the midfield partnership of Norgaard and Janelt responsible for half of these infringements. This would suggest that Yarmoliuk will be quite busy on Saturday evening as Brentford look to avoid a third defeat on the road this season having already lost against Sunderland and Forest.

Fulham to Win

It looks like Brentford are set to struggle on the road this season with their early performances away from the Gtech Community Stadium proving less than convincing. They fell to a 3-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend of the season before newly promoted Sunderland snatched a late winner against the Bees.

Fulham ran out winners both home and away against Brentford last season, netting five goals across the two games. They dominated this fixture last season despite the modest 2-1 scoreline, they could have ended the game with four of five goals as they drew 10 saves from Mark Flekken.

Fulham should be able to show this strength and dominance against their London rivals again here who have been significantly weakened since the last time the sides met.

Rodrigo Muniz to have 2+ Shots on Target

Muniz is a really capable striker and should be able to develop into a reliable Premier League player should he be able to nail down a consistent starting spot in this Fulham side, which has been difficult over the last few years with Raul Jimenez regularly competing with the 24-year-old for a starting spot.

Muniz has had six shots across his three Premier League appearances this season (2.27 per 90) with two of these attempts finding the target (0.76 per 90). These aren’t the most standout metrics for a striker but he has scored one goal from these efforts which shows the damage that Muniz can cause.

I think he’ll get a few chances here against a Brentford side that haven’t been able to get going away from home as of yet this season with defeats against Sunderland and Forest - they conceded eight shots on target across these away fixtures. Fulham had 12 shots on target in this fixture last season.

Michael Kayode to be Shown a Card

Kayode is a player worth keeping an eye on over the next few seasons as the 21-year-old has all the attributes to develop into a reliable fullback who can play as a left back or right back.

Kayode was shown a yellow card in Brentford’s 2-0 win in the Carabao Cup over Bournemouth in just 31 minutes of action. He’s committed four fouls across his four Premier League appearances (1.03 per 90) and is notably playing on the side where Fulham are strongest.

Fulham regularly target the left-hand side of the pitch. Bassey, Robinson, and Iwobi have great chemistry which the Cottagers utilise often. Their threat down that side of the pitch has increased this season with the acquisition of Kevin who looks like he could be a really bright player for Marco Silva’s side.

Kayode received two yellow cards across his six starts in the Premier League last season.

📈 Fulham v Brentford & Tactics

Fulham are the quintessential Premier League side in that they perfectly capture the essence of the league. They’re a side that can beat any team in the Premier League and look to be secure in the division for the next few seasons should they be able to sustain their current level.

Fulham have drawn two, won one and lost one of their four Premier League matches this season, with their most recent outing seeing a 1-0 win over Leeds thanks to a last-minute own goal from Gudmundsson.

Fulham are a very structured and organised side under Marco Silva, but one area where they weren’t as strong as they should have been last season was clean sheets - the Cottagers only kept five clean sheets across the entirety of the campaign.

Fulham like to build up down the left-hand side of the pitch, where they have a lot of quality with Robinson and Iwobi. New signing Kevin is worth keeping an eye on here as well. The Brazilian was bright in his cameo from the bench last time out and won the corner from which Fulham won the game.

Brentford have looked alright so far under Keith Andrews, remaining competitive in the majority of games they’ve played this term. I do think they’re a lot more vulnerable on the road than they are at home, which is something that Fulham may be able to take advantage of.

Back-to-back draws against Chelsea in the Premier League and Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup were described as ‘small steps’ by Keith Andrews, which are helping Brentford grow as a group. They did manage to progress to the next round of the cup during the week as they beat Aston Villa on penalties.

The worry for Brentford will be the result and performances in their two away matches so far. They lost to Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend of the season and also lost on the road to Sunderland, confirming that Brentford’s away matches may be where they are weakest in the early parts of this season.
