Ardley’s first game in charge comes at the perfect time
As always, we have kept our ear to the ground for any potential value to be found for our famous Gem Bets. Our National League expert has highlighted Saturday’s clash between York City and Boreham Wood as one that may have been heavily overpriced by the bookmakers, with odds likely to shorten closer to kick-off. Our expert thinks York will get off to a flyer in new manager Neal Ardley’s first game in charge, with visitors Boreham Wood struggling to even field a team thanks to an onslaught of injuries.

💎 Gem Bet: York to beat Boreham Wood (National League)
York City v Boreham Wood
York City haven’t had the start they craved following Matt Uggla’s takeover. Michael Morton was a reluctant appointment and has now been replaced with Neal Ardley.
Ardley takes charge of his first game this weekend as they host Boreham Wood. The 51-year-old is an experienced manager, big on culture and, while often progressive in style, isn’t afraid to simplify the game in order to get points on the board and put smiles on faces – and York need both.
His opening fixture couldn’t be timed better. They’re at home, giving fans a shot in the arm. And they take on a Boreham Wood outfit decimated by injuries.
They turned up at local rivals Barnet without eight players and lost another two during that game, leaving them fielding 10 of the 11 senior footballers available – two of those recently drafted in on loan and another playing with a muscle problem – as well as an academy prospect making his senior debut.
Luke Garrard’s primary objective has always been organisation and clean sheets and he is in overdrive with that process with so few players available – they are playing to stay in shape and preserve energy.
The visitors will offer little threat here & York are less likely to cause themselves the same problems with a simpler style.
