BOW ECHO must enter the realms of ‘banker of the week’ material, following his impressive three-year-old campaign — which has yielded excellent Grade One victories in the 2000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes. The Night Of Thunder colt is bidding to remain undefeated after five starts. Would you back against such a classy individual?

Bow Echo has such great tactical speed that he promises to be suited by Goodwood’s unique, idiosyncratic circuit. I expect him to travel powerfully and have a good lead into the race, from the speedy Opera Ballo. I don’t feel that Gstaad will reverse placings from Royal Ascot, where he did get closer to the selection than he was at Newmarket, granted that this race should put more of an emphasis on pace.

Bursting onto the scene with a 10-length victory at Carlisle in May, WILD BLOSSOM (8.1) is the leading player heading into today’s contest, and she will be tough to stop if she can replicate that same form.

Plenty will look at the Queen Mary run last time out (10th of 27) and question her performance, but in reality, she was only four lengths behind the winner and given the strength of the race, there are plenty of positives to take from it.

The market suggests everyone is in agreement with her performance in the Queen Mary, and factoring in her dominant debut at Carlisle, she holds leading claims with James Doyle remaining in the saddle.

PLANET SEEKER (7.8) has already proven herself at Goodwood on her racecourse debut last year, and considering she looks a rapid improver, the step up to group company today shouldn’t phase her.

Winning two of her four appearances, her latest win at Newmarket on handicap debut was by far her best performance when making solid headway from the rear of the field to win comfortably by 3 ½ lengths.

Impressing earlier this month, and although this is a tougher test, she has the credentials to perform on this stage, being out of Dancing Star, who was a Group 3 winner, and considering Ralph Beckett’s two entries in this race last year couldn’t be separated in a dead heat, she’s racing out of a proven stable in this race.

Looking for third time lucky up against Bow Echo, GSTAAD (8.4) ran a cracker last month when almost reeling him in to lose by a short head, and in the rematch today, he holds serious claims for handing Bow Echo his first loss.

Winning two of his last four appearances, Gstaad’s two losses have both come to Bow Echo, but given he got closer last time out, he’s a consistent figure who is looking to strike today at an appealing price.

Racing nine times throughout his career, Gstaad has finished inside the top two in all nine starts, and given he should come on from his Ascot run last month, Gstaad looks great value at his price, and the gap doesn’t look as wide as the market may think.

UNDER THE TWILIGHT (7.5) historically produces her best across June and July, and given she was only narrowly beaten at this meeting last year off 4lb higher, she holds bold claims to go one better.

Setting a similar trend to last season, Under The Twilight won last time out at Windsor in preparation for today, and although she has been handed a 5lb rise on the back of this, she is still well handicapped considering she is racing 4lb lower than when beaten a short head here last year.

Beating Amazonian Dream comfortably last time out (who won next time out), the partnership with Harry Davies remains intact, and given she’s heading into today’s affair full of confidence, she’s the one to beat.
