Brilliant debut winner, JAN BRUEGHEL, stepped up considerably on his second career outing, with a last-gasp success in Group Three company at the Curragh. The Galileo colt displayed inexperience throughout and hung under pressure, but once hitting top stride, motored home to win a shade cosily. This has been the aim by connections since, with the rise in trip expected to suit perfectly – as a brother to five winners – including G1 winner Sovereign.

Aidan O’Brien has noted the G1 St Leger Stakes as a future target, so it would be disappointing if the selection wasn’t able to continue his progression in a small field.

KENDALL ROY is on a steep upward curve, following five handicap wins from eight attempts, including an impressive Premier Handicap success at Cork last time out. The Twilight son gelding arrives under a penalty and is up in class, but could find further improvement with Ryan Moore an eyecatching jockey booking.

His high draw could be beneficial, with those drawn towards the stands’ side at an advantage in races on the straight course so far this week. He could get his head in front again here.

PALACE GREEN could easily bounce back from a luckless run at the Royal Meeting in June. The Richard Hughes-trained three-year-old was repeatedly denied a clear run down the home straight at Ascot, after being a shade keen early on. He would have undoubtedly finished closer to the impressive winner Hand Of God.

He was progressive nicely, prior to that mishap, and should have further improvement to come, granted a clear run throughout. Look for an each-way placing from the selection at fair odds.

G1 1000 Guineas winner ELMALKA harbours interesting each-way appeal in this fascinating Group One prize for fillies over 1m2f. The daughter of Kingman was outpaced when it mattered, in the G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last month. She clearly looked in need of this rise in journey on that occasion and she promises to stay this distance – as a half-sister to dual Group One winner over this trip (Benbatl).

Likely favourite, Opera Singer, finished ahead of the selection of that mile distance but isn’t guaranteed to get this new trip.

WESTRIDGE has improved with each of his three starts, culminating in a determined novice success over a mile at Windsor. The Blue Point colt got the better of stablemate Roi De France on that occasion, who has subsequently bolted up in novice company. The latter has been given a handicap mark of 95, which may indicate how leniently treated Westridge may be from 88 here.

This is a fiendishly competitive handicap, with multiple unexposed types, but the selection offers each-way claims for a yard among the winners this week at Goodwood.

A three-year-old colt who has been impressive since racing in handicaps, recording results of 2,1,4,1, he looks set to improve further after a solid victory last time out. Winning two class four events this year, Blake took a step up to a class two race at Epsom in June, where he held his own. Finishing fourth of 12, he ended the race strongly, staying on well and almost landing third place after being the last to break out of the stalls.

Promising signs and racing over the same trip as his Epsom appearance, this improving colt can’t be overlooked here today – especially with four places to aim and finishing inside the top four in six of his seven racecourse appearances.

Elmalka is a lightly raced three-year-old who has only been seen four times so far in her career but has been extremely effective in her starts. Landing her first victory on debut at Southwell last year, she took a five-month winter break before returning for her first turf start at Newbury in a Group 3, where she finished third (1st only half a length ahead). Landing the big one next time out, she won the 1000 Guineas Group 1 getting up in the final strides and is proving to be a dominant force in the latter stages of races.

A common theme with Elmalka is that she has been slowly away in all four of her starts but has still managed to run well and land high-profile events. With a smoother exit from the stalls today, there is no reason why she can’t land this race today given her previous performances.

Although Make It Easy has only recorded 1 win in her career so far, she has raced consistently throughout her 12 appearances and is coming into a solid stretch of form of late. Making the placings already this year at big prices of 33/1 and 28/1, she is racing off a very workable mark of 76 again today – which she finished third off at York last time out. Knocking on the door looking for her second victory, she is improving steadily and comes into this race in great form.

Make It Easy’s sole victory came when racing on today’s good ground last year at Catterick and being a reliable sort, she boasts solid each-way claims at a big price here today, especially with five places up for grabs.

A consistent three-year-old who has only failed to make the placings in his first two racecourse appearances in early 2023. On a streak of nine consecutive races making the placings and picking up two
wins along the way, Jungle Mac holds solid each-way claims heading into today. Currently putting in the best performances of his career, the gelding has recorded two second place finishes and a win last time out at Newmarket.

Racing 5lb heavier than his win last time out at Newmarket, the form he is currently showing, this shouldn’t cause him any issues heading into today, and he still looks to be well handicapped. Bold claims with five places available.
