This is one of the longest staying flat races in the calendar, which provides a great spectacle as the runners begin from in front of the stands, racing up the home straight the โwrongโ way prior to completing a huge loop of the circuit. MAKE MY DAY holds honest claims on the pick of his staying displays this season, including a second at this track over a shorter trip two starts ago. He subsequently ran down the field in the Ascot Stakes over 2m4f last month but was too far back to land a blow, with some promising late headway. A lightly raced type, itโs unlikely we have seen the best of him and appeals from an each-way perspective.
Another to consider is the Richard Hughes-trained SEA APPEAL, who built on a good Newmarket effort (behind Bague dโOr, who has since gone in again) when successful on the AW at Chelmsford over 1m5.5f. Heโs open to any amount of improvement on only a fourth start for this yard and has scope to progress stepping up considerably in distance. Interestingly, the stable sent out the winner of this last season, with the talented Calling The Wind, who had a similar profile to the selection.

CHECKANDCHALLENGE was a shade disappointing when second as a well-supported individual at Sandown last time but is worth another chance this time around. That was a first foray into handicap company but steps up in grade into a Group Three event here. Things didnโt go right for him in that contest after a slow start but to his credit the unexposed three-year-old ran on well in the closing stages, only beaten less than a length at the finishing line. He was a keen going sort in his previous races and if breaking on terms, he could be able to dictate from the front, proving tough to catch.

NOBLE DYNASTY justified strong market support when making all of the running to win with plenty to spare at Newmarket on reappearance. The four-year-old had been gelded prior to that improved effort, proving himself a likely pattern performer in the process. Heโs in this line-up with just a 3lb penalty and is officially 6lb ahead of his mark, which is lenient. He could continue the winning form of the Godolphin outfit, who have already scored four successes at the festival this week.
THE TURPINATOR is likely to run on strongly at the finish, raised a furlong after a cosy success in a similar course handicap. The lightly raced five-year-old won with more than the neck margin suggested on that occasion and should enjoy a strong pace to aim at here.

ACKLAM EXPRESS comes into the feature race on the card in excellent form after a shock third at 200/1 in the G1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. This is a step down in grade, he’s a course-and-distance winner and can take advantage of the good high draw. There is every chance he can prove hard to catch with a quick break and is likely to be supported with his main market rivals drawn on the unfavoured side of the track.

This looks a weak Group Three prize where every runner would have some sort of chance if producing their peak form. DESERT ENCOUNTER could spring a surprise with a strong course record โ he has form figures of 2122 โ including at this standard. He needs to be forgiven a lacklustre display on reappearance at Newbury but could step forward from that first run in 259 days. Itโs not beyond the realms of possibility that he could be nursed into a minor place.

The strong form of the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes has been well advertised in recent weeks โ seven subsequent winners have notched on their next run โ including a Group Three winner, a pair of Listed scorers and first in the Super Sprint at Newbury BOLD ACTION is expected to build on an excellent sixth in that event, keeping on over the 5f distance. He looked like heโd appreciate this extra furlong and is bred to be more effective over 6f, being out of a half-sister to three Group One winners. He can continue his upward curve.

OMNISCIENT rewarded followers of this column with an effortless five-and-a-half-length victory in a Yarmouth handicap over 1m2f last week. Heโs been raised plenty in the handicap, with a 12lb hike, but has been shrewdly placed by his trainer. The Mukhadram gelding races from a 6lb penalty so is effectively still 6lb ahead of his mark. He looked way ahead of the assessor that day. The step up to 1m3f is likely to bring about further progress, too. His stable has been among the winners in the past fortnight and the trainer doesnโt send many to this racecourse, suggesting a bold display is likely.
