A tough ask on debut but producing a solid second place behind 1/5 favourite L’eau Du Sud, who is unbeaten over fences in his four appearances, there are a lot of positives to take from this race.

Although stepping up to 2m4f for the first time in his career, he looks likely to take well to this longer trip given he stayed on in the latter stages of his race at Warwick and holds leading claims to get off the mark over fences.

Racing 6 times in his career on all weather, Champagne Prince has won 5 of his 6 starts, only narrowly beaten in his sole defeat.

Landing a course and distance win here last month in the trial for this event, he is up against some tough opposition today, but given his performances on all weather, it is likely Champagne Prince is yet to hit his ceiling. A positive appointment with William Buick in the saddle after landing a win in December and with his 2 market rivals returning for their first race of 2025, he has every chance of landing this.

Rounding up Saturday’s free Racing Ratings tips, we are heading to Kempton for the 15:35, where we have HYLAND, coming in with a Racing Rating of 16.

An 8-year-old gelding who has produced impressive form over hurdles in his career but is turning into an even better chaser after making the switch in June last year. Winning 3 of his 5 starts over fences and finishing a very respectable second to The Jukebox Man in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase Grade 1 last time out, who is unbeaten in his 2 starts over fences, he holds bold claims today.

Returning to handicap company in today’s affair, he is returning to calmer waters here and looking like racing off a very workable mark. He holds leading claims to go one better over course and distance. Perfect ground conditions today for Hyland with 5 of his 7 wins coming when racing on good ground, and with long-time rider Nico de Boinville in the saddle for his 16th start, they’re the ones to beat.
