Hull have been efficient when it comes to finding the back of the net this season, and the head-to-head record between these sides highlights exactly how entertaining this matchup promises to be. It finished 3-1 to Millwall when these sides last met at the MKM Stadium, which was in March, and 3-1 to Hull in the reverse fixture at the Den. Despite their difficult end to the regular season, the Tigers' attacking quality hasn't diminished, and they have found the back of the net in seven of their last eight Championship fixtures. Millwall come into this first leg as the team in better form, having won three of their last four matches to close out the campaign. They will want to keep that streak going and start strong in this first leg, so Millwall should keep their front-footed tactics here despite playing away from home. 

Both head-to-head meetings this season between Hull and Millwall were feisty affairs, and cards are a target again here given how the stakes have been raised. Femi Azeez saw red when these sides met at the Den in December, while Hull added another three yellow cards to the tally to land this selection. In the reverse fixture at the MKM Stadium, referee David Webb was kept busy. Despite having one of the lowest card averages out of all Championship referee’s, Webb dished out a total of six yellows, with two to the hosts, and four to Millwall. 

The Tigers rank top of the league for total yellow cards accumulated this season, highlighting how can be quite an aggressive side. Millwall haven’t been quite as combative, but they are averaging 2.7 cards per game when playing away this season - a notable increase on their home average of 1.28. 

Oli McBurnie has been one of the standout players in the Championship this season, and his brace on the final day against Norwich secured the comeback and booked Hull’s spot in the playoffs. The Scottish international has been the focal point of Hull's attacks this season, and he has scored 17 goals from 37 league appearances this campaign - only Zan Vipotnik has scored more Championship goals than McBurnie. 

McBurnie has taken 71 shots in the Championship this season, averaging 2.2 per 90 which is nothing to write home about, but 54% of his efforts have hit the target. He tends to be accurate with his chances, and is excellent at finding promising positions in the opposition box. McBurnie blanked when he faced Millwall at the MKM Stadium in March, but he scored in the reverse fixture at the Den, so he has every reason to be looking forward to this matchup.

In addition to his prolific scoring, McBurnie is a physically imposing presence up front who is excellent at drawing infringements from centre backs. He uses his body well to hold up the play and bring his team-mates into the game, and McBurnie can be such a difficult player to dispossess, which forces opponents to foul him instead. The Scotland international is averaging 1.21 fouls drawn per 90 in the league this season, rising to 1.53 when playing at home. In fact, he has drawn 17 free kicks in his last nine starts at the MKM Stadium. 

Meanwhile, Jake Cooper has committed at least one foul in each of his last nine away matches, and he is averaging 1.33 fouls per 90 on the road this season. This matchup against McBurnie will be one to watch, as it’s a battle between two physical players.
