Inter Miami v Porto

📅

Kick Off: Thursday 19th June at 20:00

🏆

Competition: FIFA Club World Cup

Inter Miami and Porto will be hoping for a more exciting game when they face off in the second group game of the Club World Cup. Both sides drew their opening games of the group 0-0, so each side in Group A is as they were at the start of the competition heading into the second round of fixtures.

Porto will feel slightly more urgency than Inter Miami to pick up a result here as the European representative in the group, anything other than a win for Porto here will make it difficult for them in the final game of the group, especially if there is a winner between Al Ahly and Palmieras in the other game in this group.

Samu Aghehowa to Score anytime

Samu was pretty quiet by his standards in Porto’s opening game of the Club World Cup against Palmeiras, he had one shot on target in the game with Porto only managing three overall. We can expect him to be more of a regular threat here in a game that will be seen as a must win for Porto if they want to continue in this competition.

Samu enjoyed an excellent debut 24/25 season for Porto after making the move from Deportivo Alaves, despite heavy links to Chelsea. He scored 25 goals across his 43 appearances during the 24/25 campaign for Porto, showing his ability to produce regularly in front of goal. 19 of these goals came in Liga Portugal, from just 23 starts.

We can expect an improved performance for Porto seeing as they faced off against their main opposition in the group in Palmeiras in the opening game, the remaining two games should be a bit more straightforward for Porto who have a clear source of goals with Samu.

Rodrigo Mora is one of the most sought after teenagers across Europe following his performances for Porto this season. He registered 14 goal contributions across his 33 appearances for Porto during the 24/25 season, with all of these coming in Liga Portugal, across just 16 starts. Mora averaged 2.87 shots per 90 across these games and 1.11 shots on target per 90 which gives him decent scope to find the target here. Mora had two shots against Palmeiras in the opening game of the Club World Cup, taking him above his shot average at 3+ shots which is priced at 1.91 is also worth looking at.

🔵 Alan Valera

Varela plays in the middle of the park for Porto and could find himself regularly tested here by the experienced core of Inter Miami who drew 11 fouls from Al Ahly in their opening game of the Club World Cup. Varela committed a foul against Palmeiras last time out, contesting five duels in total. We can expect these numbers to rise slightly against Inter Miami seeing as Varela will be contending with Busquets (2.08 fouls won per 90) as well as Messi (1.78 fouls won per 90) when the Argentine decides to drop deep. Varela averaged 1.27 fouls committed per 90 across his 31 appearances in Liga Portugal during the 24/25 season.

💻 Inter Miami v Porto Form and Tactics

Porto were a little flat in their opener against Palmeiras with the Brazilian side posting an xG of 2.08 from 17 shots against Martin Anselmi’s side. However, fatigue is a factor that seems to be widespread at this tournament with many players struggling with the playing conditions, we’ve already had three 0-0 draws at this tournament so we can expect another laboured game here.

Porto finished third during the regular season in Liga Portugal and have had quite an eventful campaign with long term coach Sergio Conceicao departing for AC Milan halfway through the season. They were also pretty disappointed in the Europa League, crashing out just after the league phase of the competition which would suggest that Porto aren’t in the best position to kick on in this tournament which should offer some encouragement to Inter Miami.

Inter Miami were unlucky not to score against Al Ahly in their opening game which also ended 0-0. Both goalkeepers put in fantastic performances in that game and Inter Miami showed that they can be a threat to this Porto side with their aging core of Alba, Busquets, Suarez and Messi still able to do plenty of damage.

Inter Miami recorded 14 shots with five of these attempts finding the target in their opening group game against Ah Ahly but did allow as many as eight attempts on their goal which is not sustainable, especially against a side that will have slightly more quality in the final third than Al Ahly did in the opening matchup.
