Nicolo Barella looks nicely priced to commit at least one foul on Wednesday night. The Inter Milan midfielder has given away one free-kick in each of his two Champions League appearances this season so far.

In last season’s Champions League, Barella averaged 1.16 fouls per-game. It has been a similar story in Serie A this season, with the 27-year-old racking up eight misdemeanours across his eight outings to date. It’s also worth noting that Barella committed a combined total of five fouls across his four appearances for Italy at Euro 2024.

He will likely find himself in similar areas of the pitch to that of Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard. The Belgian forward has been fouled twice in each of his last two Premier League outings, not to mention he earned the Gunners three set pieces on matchday two against PSG.

Declan Rice is prone to giving away free-kicks. The Gunners midfielder has been guilty of at least one offence in six of his last eight Premier League appearances, committing multiple fouls in three of those contents. The England international has also fallen foul of the referee four times across his four Nations League outings for his country in recent months.

Rice will likely be involved in a fiery midfield battle with the aforementioned Nicolo Barella, who was fouled three times when going up against Man City on matchday one. The Inter Milan man has also been fouled 12 times across his eight appearances in Serie A this season.

Bukayo Saka is a player who regularly finds himself on the receiving end of some rough treatment from Arsenal’s opponents. The Gunners talisman was fouled twice during his side’s 2-0 win over PSG on matchday two.

He has also been on the receiving end of multiple misdemeanours in no fewer than seven of his nine Premier League outings for Arsenal this season. In fact, Saka was fouled a whopping six times at St James’ Park last time out. Consequently, the Arsenal ace has now drawn two or more fouls from the opposition in each of his last four Premier League outings.

Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco is likely to be assigned a shackling job on Saka. The 26-year-old defender committed a foul against Venezia on Sunday. He has also got on the wrong side of the referee in three of his last four appearances for Italy.

Given the aforementioned Saka’s knack for drawing fouls from Arsenal’s foes, it makes plenty of sense to side with a minimum of one foul from Federico Dimarco.

While the Inter Milan left wing-back is not a frequent offender, he did commit a foul when his team played host to both Atalanta and AC Milan earlier this season, which suggests that he is prone to giving away free-kicks when he comes up against high-calibre sides.

On top of that, Dimarco tackled his way into trouble once in each of Italy’s recent Nations League encounters with both France and Belgium. Thus, a minimum of one foul from the Italian on Wednesday night holds plenty of appeal.

Hakan Calhanoglu is a player who is likely to find himself in the thick of the midfield battle on Wednesday night, making him an attractive option to commit two or more fouls. While Calhanoglu is the creative hub of the Inter team, he isn’t afraid to do the dirty work when required.

The Turkish midfielder came off the bench to commit a foul during a 20 minute appearance against Venezia on Sunday. He also sinned twice during Inter’s 3-2 home win over Torino last month. What’s more, Calhanoglu was guilty of multiple offences in a sizeable 11 of his 32 outings in Serie A last season. He also gave away two or more free-kicks in three of his four appearances for Turkey at Euro 2024 earlier this year.

His combative streak will almost certainly be on show against Arsenal on Wednesday night. He could be tasked with keeping tabs on Kai Havertz, who was fouled twice during Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Atalanta on matchday one.

Look to Kai Havertz to earn his side two or more free-kicks in the San Siro on Wednesday night. The Arsenal attacker likes to throw his weight around and that often leads to him both drawing and committing fouls.

In fact, Havertz has been fouled exactly twice in each of Arsenal’s opening three games in this season’s Champions League. He has also been fouled at least once in seven of his 10 Premier League appearances this season, drawing multiple free-kicks from the opposition in two of those seven matches.

It’s also worth pointing out that Havertz has been on the receiving end of five fouls across his two outings for Germany in the Nations League. Alessandro Bastoni is likely to be one of three Inter Milan defenders that will cross paths with Havertz. Bastoni has committed five fouls across his two Champions League starts this season so far, including three against Red Star Belgrade.

Declan Rice is given plenty of licence to attack by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. Rice is very much an all-rounder in the middle park for the Gunners. He offers a lot going forward and if a chance falls his way then expect him to try his luck. Rice attempted two shots during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on matchday three. He has also had a pop at goal in six of his nine Premier League appearances for Arsenal this season, registering multiple efforts in three of his last five outings.

Given how rock-solid Inter have been at the back in this season’s Champions League, Arsenal may be forced into attempting some long range efforts, making Rice a strong contender to pull the trigger at least once during this San Siro showdown.

Inter Milan picked up two cards in their previous Champions League home game with Red Star Belgrade and a repeat looks worth siding with when they host Arsenal on Wednesday night. Simone Inzaghi’s side were also shown two cards during their 1-0 victory over Venezia at the weekend. That means Inter have collected two or more bookings in three of their last four league games. That four-game sample includes matches with both Roma and Juventus, so there is plenty of scope for them to clock up another couple of cards when Arsenal come calling.

While the Gunners’ opening three games in this season’s Champions League have delivered low card counts to date, it’s been a different story in the Premier League this term. Arteta’s side have drawn multiple bookings from eight of their 10 top-flight opponents this season. With a competitive and fiery fixture expected from the San Siro on Wednesday night, a minimum of two Inter Milan cards is certainly within range.
