Ipswich to Receive the Most Cards

Ipswich are one of the most penalised teams in the Premier League having racked up 55 total cards, the third most of any side in the division. Brighton meanwhile, are one of the cleanest teams with only 42 cards.

Ipswich have not lost the card battle in any of their last 6 Premier League matches, racking up 4 v Chelsea and 5 v Fulham. Across the season they average the 4th most fouls in the Premier League (12.1 per game) and have individuals such as Liam Delap and Sam Morsy who are card magnets. A price of 1.83 represents generous odds for Ipswich to lead the card count again.

Liam Delap to Score before 19:59

Liam Delap has scored 8 Premier League goals this season and interestingly, 6 of them have been in the first half. He has scored 4 times in the first 19:59 of matches this season and has shown he can get off to a hot start. Delap is also Ipswich's first-choice penalty taker which gives him an extra advantage.

8 out of Ipswich’s 20 EPL goals have come inside the first 20 minutes this season, they start and this can’t be a coincidence. He is as short as 3.75 to score anytime so to get 15.0 on a goal inside the first 20 minutes could be considered good value.

🔍 Ipswich v Brighton Players to Watch

Georginio Rutter

The former Leeds United man has drawn 1.60 fouls per 90 minutes so far this season. He is likely to drift in and around the number 10 position, which will put him up against Ipswich’s Sam Morsy, who has one of the highest foul rates of anyone in their team (2.10 per 90).

Rutter is a very technical player and is full of tricks, which can frustrate opponents. Look for him to be fouled a couple of times on Thursday night.

🔵 Sam Morsy

The Ipswich Town captain is averaging exactly 2 fouls per 90 mins this season. He has obtained the most Ipswich cards in the Premier League (7) and it’s always going to be difficult for him to play a clean game, especially facing a strong technical side such as Brighton.

Potential opponents for Morsy include Joao Pedro, who draws a high average 2.21 fouls per 90 mins, as well as Carlos Baleba, who draws 1.40. Morsy will be disruptive, he’s the captain so leads by example, sometimes this means producing tactical fouls to break up the game or to prevent counterattacks.

🔵 Liam Delap

Liam Delap has found some form recently, scoring in consecutive Premier League games. 16 of his 30 shots have been on target this season in the EPL, a solid number, while he can be a streaky player and his shots on targets tend to come in clumps.

He fired 3 attempts on target in his last home match v Chelsea and is the first-choice penalty taker for the Tractor Boys. Facing a Brighton defence which has struggled for clean sheets this season, tacking Delap for just 1 effort on target at 1.83 looks a solid selection.

💻 Ipswich v Brighton Form and Tactics

Ipswich have enjoyed a resurgence in form recently, they fought hard to only lose 0-1 at Arsenal before shocking Chelsea with a 2-0 victory. They drew 2-2 away to Fulham before registering an easy FA Cup win 3-0 vs Bristol Rovers.

Manager Kieran McKenna has mostly used a 4-2-3-1 system this season but recently switched to a 5-4-1 vs Arsenal and Fulham.

Ipswich average the third least possession in the Premier League and are a clear counter-attacking side at this level.

Brighton also claimed a comfortable FA Cup win, 4-0 away to Norwich but their Premier League form has been patchy. Brighton have no win in their last 8 EPL games but have drawn 6 of those contests.

Fabian Hurzeler has used a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 formation in all of their matches this season which is predominantly a possession-based system, especially when they are a clear favourite
