Ivory Coast and Ecuador meet at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia for game week one of the World Cup.

Ecuador had an excellent World Cup qualifying campaign, and they have maintained that form in recent warm-up friendlies, but Ivory Coast have also been performing well recently.

Group E is one of the most competitive ones on paper, with Germany also in the mix, so both sides will be desperate for a positive result here.

📈 Ivory Coast Qualification & Recent Form

Ivory Coast will make their first appearance at the World Cup since 2014, following a comfortable qualifying campaign during which they went ten games unbeaten.

It wasn’t the most competitive group, with Gabon, Gambia, Kenya, Burundi and Seychelles, but Ivory Coast actually went all ten matches without conceding a single goal. They fell short of expectations at AFCON, having been eliminated in the quarter-finals, but Ivory Coast look like a strong side on paper, with a nice blend of experienced campaigners and emerging talent playing all across Europe’s top five leagues.

They have also won all three warm-up friendlies, including a notable 2-1 victory against France last time out.

📈 Ecuador Qualification & Recent Form

Ecuador also had an exceptional defensive record in their qualifying matches, and they massively overperformed. They finished second in the CONMEBOL standings, above the likes of Brazil, Uruguay, and Colombia, with just five goals conceded in 18 games.

Based on that, it wouldn’t be a surprise for this match against Ivory Coast to be a cagey, low-scoring affair. In fact, Ecuador last tasted defeat all the way back in 2024, which was a 1-0 loss against Brazil.

They have proven themselves to be a stubborn defensive unit, and it looks like they are going to be a tough side to break down at the World Cup.
