Burton Albion v Ipswich Town
🏟
Tuesday 16th August – 7:45PM KO
Ipswich Town stand out as one of the main bankers in League One’s midweek action. The Tractor Boys have picked up seven points from their opening three games, impressing with a 3-0 win over Milton Keynes Dons last time out.
Burton Albion have endured a very concerning start to the season, drawing once and losing three times in all competitions. The Brewers led 3-0 and 4-2 at Accrington Stanley at the weekend, but could not hold on and drew 4-4. Ipswich have a deeper and stronger squad to deal with the quick turnaround and they kept their first clean sheet of the season against the Dons, the first of many given the promise of their start.
Burton have conceded 11 goals in their three third tier outings so far, while the Tractor Boys are averaging 2.27 expected goals (xG) for per match. Ipswich are at 1.85 to win the game, a price that will likely shorten before kick-off, and one that is only so large due to the stage of the season we are at. If the campaign pans out as both teams have started, Ipswich would be a lot shorter for this fixture later on in the season.

Portsmouth v Cambridge United
🏟
Tuesday 16th August – 7:45PM KO
Cambridge United have been one of the most impressive teams in League One so far, compared to pre-season expectations of them. Spirit and morale will be sky-high in the camp under Mark Bonner, one of the most underrated managers in the EFL, and the bookies are still not giving them the respect that they deserve.
You can take the Amber and Black Army with a head start on the Asian Handicap as a solid angle into this fixture. Portsmouth are also being looked on a little too favourably for me at this early stage in the season, they went off at 1.75 against Lincoln City, last time out at home, and drew 0-0. It is very hard to justify them being as short as 1.70 against Cambridge, who have started the season in far better shape than the Imps. Pompey are the rightful favourites and should be competing in a different section of the table with the quality present in the squad, but Cambridge are capable of causing an upset, and more so than their price to take something from the game suggests.

Prediction: Cambridge Double Chance, 2.10 on Betfair (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
Charlton Athletic v Plymouth Argyle
🏟
Tuesday 16th August – 7:45PM KO
Charlton Athletic have had a very intriguing start to the season, causing most teams problems and often producing matches with a lot of goalscoring opportunities at both ends. The Addicks dominated for large periods but fell to a 1-0 defeat at League One title favourites Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend. Plymouth Argyle picked up a very impressive 2-0 win over Peterborough United and head to The Valley for an exciting Tuesday evening encounter.
Charlton have only kept one clean sheet in their opening quartet of fixtures, and Ben Garner’s style does lead towards goal-laden games. Argyle are averaging 2.18 xGF per game in League One so far and should be confident of breaching the Addicks’ backline. Charlton will not change how they play, regardless of the opposition, and with a depth of attacking quality in their side, Garner should be able to rotate effectively, if needed, in the final third. Jack Payne and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi could play a more significant part of the match and that should increase the hosts’ attacking threat. Both Teams to Score has only copped once so far in Charlton’s three third tier games, but on the balance of chances it looks like a sensible angle into this one.
