In a way we should all be pleased that this match will take place. Sheffield Wednesday should be able to put out an XI despite their financial issues, and Leicester will look to take advantage of that.

Barry Bannan to have 1+ Shots

Just about the only feel-good story for Wednesday in the postseason is the commitment to a new deal for Barry Bannan.

Close to club legend status already, Bannan will surely have only confirmed that by agreeing to this deal, and he will be one who will surely give absolutely everything on the pitch to try and make something happen for Wednesday.

That something could easily be in the form of a shot. Whether that is from open play or from a direct free kick, Bannan is surely overpriced to at least have an attempt. He is likely to play the full match, especially given the lack of strength in depth that Wednesday are carrying at the moment in their squad.

He has hit at least one shot in four of his last five Championship starts, and he finished last season with an average of 1.19 shots per 90.

Yan Valery to Commit 2+ Fouls

The Sheffield Wednesday right back is another one who looks fairly secure in their place to play at least the majority of the match.

If he does so, then he looks fairly overpriced for two or more fouls.

Firstly, he is likely to be up against Stephy Mavididi, who caused absolute chaos and havoc in the 23/24 season for Leicester on that flank.

Secondly, Valery's fouls committed data is promising. He averages 1.38 fouls per 90 over his last 30 matches, and his last three matches in the Championship saw him foul four times against Watford and twice against Portsmouth and Middlesbrough.

Over 4.5 Leicester Corners

The most value way to get with Leicester and their likely dominance here looks to be through the corner count.

There is little value in anything else connected to the result or match markets because Leicester are so short to win the game, but there looks to be a window of value here.

Leicester obviously struggled to win many corners during their time in the Premier League but going back to their 23/24 title winning season in the Championship, Leicester averaged 6.57 corners per home match.

13 of their 23 home matches in that season saw this line beaten, but they wouldn’t have been as short a price to win any of those matches as they are here.

📈 Leicester v Sheffield Wednesday Form & Tactics

Martí Cifuentes is the new man in the dugout for Leicester, so although we don't know exactly how his Leicester team shapes up yet, we do at least have an understanding of his philosophy from his time at QPR.

Cifuentes is a back four man, with a couple of hard-working central midfielders in front, albeit one of those usually has to have a touch of culture about them and the ability to take the ball under pressure. Cifuentes will expect his teams to be brave on the ball, keep the wide forwards high and wide, and progress the ball quickly.

QPR operated with a lone centre forward in most cases, and with Patson Daka pretty much the only option in the Leicester squad right now, that works out alright for him.

For Henrik Pedersen in his first match in charge of Sheffield Wednesday, it is perhaps less about how he shapes up his team and more about who he can get out onto the pitch in the first place!

I think that we are likely to see a 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 shape with a couple of players being asked to fill in unusual roles for them. A midfield three of Barry Bannan, Svante Ingelsson, and Nathaniel Chalobah is passable at Championship level. They still also have Jamal Lowe and Ike Ugbo, both players bought fairly recently to power an attacking force, but they look very light in defensive areas.

Pedersen’s tactics are likely to be to sit in a low block and attempt to spring out on the break using the speed that they have in the forward line.

🏁 Ref Watch

Matt Donohue

  • Donohue is a veteran of 160 Championship matches as the man in the middle

  • He has averaged 3.91 yellow cards per match in that time in the second tier

  • He is around average for fouls given at 23.63 per match
