🔵 An Encouraging Return to The Top Flight
Levante’s La Liga return ended in heartbreak as they conceded a 92nd-minute winner against Alaves. Granotas started the game strong, restricting the hosts to very few chances in the opening half-hour, before eventually falling one goal behind. However, the visitors were able to fight back and draw level. It looked as though the Valencian side would secure their first point of the new campaign, but late drama saw Nahuel Tenaglia snatch victory for Alaves, leaving Levante empty-handed despite a spirited display.
Still, there were plenty of positives to take from what was Levante’s first match in the Spanish top flight in three years. They were able to create real openings on the counter, which suggests that Julian Calero’s side are more than capable of competing at this level. Now, they return to the Ciutat de Valencia Stadium, where they were incredibly strong last season, losing just once in 21 home games.
🟡 La Masia to Show No Mercy
Hansi Flick’s side made an emphatic start to their title defence, sweeping aside Mallorca with a convincing 3-0 victory last time out. It took just seven minutes for Barca to get off the mark, as Raphinha latched onto a pinpoint cross from Lamine Yamal. Soon after, Ferran Torres doubled the lead with a spectacular strike from outside the box, albeit in controversial circumstances.
Barcelona’s task was made significantly easier for the second period, as Mallorca were reduced to nine men - Manu Morlanes and Vedat Muriqi both shown red cards before the break. With a two-man advantage, the Catalans fully imposed themselves on the game, dominating possession and creating chance after chance. In total, they racked up 17 shots while restricting Mallorca to just two.
📊 Levante v Barcelona H2H
Barcelona have come out victors in seven of the last 10 head-to-head meetings in the league, including a league double when these sides last faced off in the 21/22 campaign.
Over 2.5 goals landed in both of those games, and in eight of the last 10 in total.
