Saturday's Ligue 1 Final Day Accumulator Tips

Fixtures for: Saturday 17th May

Nantes v Montpellier

20:00

Nantes to Win

A point will be enough to secure Nantes’ safety for another season but really Antoine Kombouare’s side should have no problems picking up all three against a Montpellier side that is already relegated and desperate for the summer to begin.

The home side come into this game having drawn three of their last four matches, including a memorable point at home against PSG in April. That is just one example of some of their decent form over the course of the last month, during which they have beaten Champions League-chasing outfits Lille and Nice.

By contrast, Montpellier’s form has been catastrophic. Zoumana Camara’s side have lost 13 of their last 14 matches, with the recently installed coach looking firmly towards next season by deploying young players who are not cut out for this level. On top of this, Montpellier have an injury crisis that is still raging.

Away from home, it’s hard for Montpellier to have been any worse. They have lost 15 of 16 games, scoring a total of just six goals on their travels all season. There’s nothing to suggest they will spark into life on the final day of the season against a team hungry for points.

Nice v Brest

20:00

Brest (+2) Handicap

There’s an interesting dynamic going into the clash between Nice and Brest. While Champions League football is on the line for the hosts, there is a possibility of their opponents also securing European football next season if Lyon are banned from UEFA competition due to their financial problems. Don’t expect the visiting side to be on their holidays just yet, in other words.

Nice have not won a home Ligue 1 match by more than a single goal since February, when they overcame struggling Montpellier 2-0. Since then, they have played five five matches, and while they have recorded wins over Angers and Reims in the past month, both wins came by just a single goal. Similarly, when Nice won in Brest in November, they did so 1-0.

Brest, meanwhile, have been highly competitive in recent weeks. After struggling to juggle midweek fixtures in the early part of the year, they have lost only two of their last nine matches. They did get blown away 4-1 in Marseille in their previous away match, but they notably did Nice a favour by beating Lille 2-0 at home last weekend.

Eric Roy’s side should be expected to be competitive in this game, which also has the capacity to be a high-scoring affair. Each of these sides have seen Over 2.5 goals in five of their last seven – a 1.5 shot here.

St Etienne v Toulouse

20:00

St Etienne Draw No Bet

Saint-Etienne look a fine price to overcome Toulouse on a Draw No Bet basis in their final Ligue 1 match of the season. After all, the home side come into this game needing the win to secure safety while their opponents are settled in a mid-table spot.

While the hosts have lost two of their last three games, these defeats came against opponents chasing Champions League football. More importantly, they claimed a thrilling 2-0 win over Reims away from home last weekend to give themselves hope going into the final day of the season. A crunch derby victory was also recently achieved.

Toulouse, meanwhile, have nothing riding on this game at all. The visitors may have gone undefeated in their last three, but they have more pertinently won only one of their last nine games. Indeed, their last away win was way back on March 2, when they won in Angers. Since then, they have travelled to weak Reims and Nantes sides and failed to take maximum points.

Given excellent home backing, look for Saint-Etienne to come out on top and at least give themselves an opportunity of survival. If top scorer Lucas Stassin is back fit, which seems unlikely, this will look an even stronger bet.

Strasbourg v Le Havre

20:00

Strasbourg to Win

Strasbourg go into the final game of the season still dreaming of the Champions League, but if they are going to achieve it, they will almost certainly have to beat Le Havre at home. It is a game they have every chance of winning.

Although Racing lost to Angers 2-0 last weekend, it came as a major shock and totally against the formbook. Prior to that game, they had gone undefeated in 12 games, winning nine of those.

Strasbourg, who win 3-0 in Le Havre in December, are especially strong at home. They have lost only one game at Stade de la Meinau this season, picking up ten wins and scoring 31 times in the process.

Le Havre, who are in the relegation play-off spot and could very well achieve safety with a win, are unlikely to be defensively sound enough to avoid defeat here. Didier Digard’s outfit have conceded an enormous 69 goals this season, which is a very unhealthy figure given they will go up against a team that has seven clean sheets in their last 14.

Adding to this toxic mix for Le Havre is the fact that Strasbourg have scored two or more goals in five of their last nine, suggesting the hosts have the firepower to get them over the line here.
