Reigning world champion, and the reigning champion of the Grand Slam of Darts, Luke Humphries will begin his title defence against an out-of-sorts Rowby-John Rodriguez on Saturday night.
The Austrian qualified for this tournament thanks to a run to the final of the World Cup of Darts with countryman Mensur Suljovic but has failed to make much of an impression anywhere else.

Luke Humphries v Rowby-John Rodriguez Best Bet
🎯 Luke Humphries to Win & Most 180s
📈 Odds: 1.57
‘Cool Hand Luke’ is the bookmakers’ favourite to triumph in Wolverhampton for the second year on the trot. As for Rodriguez, he will be one of the lowest-ranked players to feature in this year’s event, not to mention it will mark his first Grand Slam appearance since 2021.
As such, Humphries is the red-hot 1.13 favourite to hit the ground running on Saturday night. With the world number one simply unbackable at those odds, instead look to Humphries to prevail as well as hitting the most 180s at 1.57.
Humphries has hit a whopping 636 180s since the turn of the year, a tally bettered only by Wessel Nijman (676) and Luke Littler (708). In contrast, Rodriguez has amassed just 119 maximums across the same period, a return that has him ranked 165th for 180s in 2024.
At last year’s Grand Slam of Darts, ‘Cool Hand Luke’ racked up a combined total of 43 180s en route to glory. It’s also worth noting that Humphries won the 180 battle in six of his seven Grand Slam outings 12 months ago, including two of his three group stage victories. With Humphries expected to ease himself into the tournament with an opening night success, the smart wager is to support him to win alongside delivering the most 180s.
