Mexico will look to continue their perfect start to the 2026 World Cup when they face Ecuador at the Azteca in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Javier Aguirre’s side were one of only three teams to emerge from the group stage with three wins from three, but they face a stern test here.

Ecuador arrive after a dramatic 2-1 win over Germany, which secured qualification, setting up a tight contest that fine margins could decide.

📈 Mexico Recent Form

Mexico made a dream start to their World Cup campaign, winning all three of their group stage matches.

Even more impressive is the fact that Javier Aguirre’s side kept a clean sheet in each of those victories.

That means Mexico have now won their last six matches across all competitions, scoring multiple goals in four of those wins.

The co-hosts will come into this round of 32 clash with a full complement of players to select from.

Talismanic striker Raul Jimenez was rested against the Czech Republic and is expected to be restored to the starting XI.

📈 Ecuador Recent Form

After falling to a 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in their opening Group E fixture and then playing out a surprise 0-0 draw with Curacao, Ecuador claimed a crucial 2-1 victory over Germany on matchday three - a triumph that ultimately secured qualification to the knockout round.

Remarkably, Ecuador have lost just one of their last 22 matches across all competitions, while they conceded just five goals across their 18 World Cup qualifiers.

The South Americans also come into this showdown with no injury or suspension issues to contend with.

Ecuador’s all-time record goalscorer, Enner Valencia, has yet to score at the 2026 World Cup, with his next strike set to be his 50th for his country.
