📂 Oxford v Sunderland Cheat Sheet
📈 Oxford v Sunderland Form & Stats
Oxford were comprehensively beaten by Norwich last time out, in a 3-0 loss on home turf. Mohamed Toure opened the scoring in the first minute for the visitors, getting on the end of a long ball from goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw. He then doubled the advantage shortly after, before completing his hat-trick early in the second half. The centre forward had a field day against Oxford, and Isidor should be licking his lips at the prospect of this weekend's matchup.
They are really lacking confidence at the moment, which doesn’t bode well with such a tough upcoming matchup. Sunderland were also on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat, but that was against league-leader Arsenal last weekend.
Sunderland got off to a flyer in the Premier League this season, but results have regressed in recent weeks, and they have won just three of their last 13 Premier League matches. Regis Le Bris' side suffered their first league defeat at the Stadium of Light midweek, as Liverpool secured a 1-0 victory.
In the previous round of the FA Cup, Sunderland edged past Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, as Robin Roefs had a blinder in the shootout; he saved all three of the hosts’ spot kicks.
📔 Oxford v Sunderland Formation & Team News
Granit Xhaka missed out against Liverpool midweek, as he continues to recover from injury, while Omar Alderete is a fresh injury concern, as he was replaced late on against the Reds. Luke O’Nein could come in at the back, or Nordi Mukiele could shift into centre back to partner Dan Ballard here. Nilson Angulo made his first Sunderland start midweek, but Chemsdine Talbi could make a return on the left wing.
Tottenham Hotspur loanee Will Lankshear will be available for his game after serving his suspension against Norwich, and he could lead the line for Oxford. Ruben Roosken could also start at the back, after Sam Long picked up an injury midweek and had to be replaced at half-time. Cameron Brannagan has been a key figure in the heart of midfield for the Yellows this season, and the captain will hope to inspire some sort of comeback after their poor midweek result.
