Guaraní v Guaireña
Guaraní come into the match on what is a three game unbeaten run but also a six game winless streak having drawn four of their last six matches. Guaireña have lost their previous two games having won twice before that which is a good summary of their inconsistent season to date.
Fernando Jubero must have consoled himself with the signs of improvement of his side who could have beaten Libertad in the previous match but for a late Óscar Cardozo equalizer. Néstor Camacho has scored in three consecutive matches for the first time since September 2019, finding a new lease of life at the club he rejoined after five years away. They will likely be missing Matí Segovia who is traveling back from the US for the recent Paraguay friendly.
Guaireña saw both Nildo Viera and Nelson Ruiz hobble off in the first half of their defeat to Nacional, but the club confirmed that neither injury was serious and they are both available for Friday’s game. Viera has been a key figure scoring five goals this season and will relish a game against the club he debuted at. Interestingly, regardless of results, the side have managed to score in six of their eight league matches to date, a big improvement on the Apertura.
Guaraní won the last meeting 2-1 and we might see a similar kind of scoreline, but with BTTS the same price as the home win it is a more attractive option. Guaraní are five games without keeping a clean sheet while Guaireña are 8 games without, BTTS has landed in seven of their last eight games.
Nacional v Tacuary
Pedro Sarabia’s Nacional pulled themselves back into the title race last week with a confident away win while those around them dropped points. Importantly, Facundo Bruera finally found the net from open play again after a relatively long drought for the young forward. Tacuary are playing great football themselves under new manager Iván Almeida and head into this one on a six game unbeaten streak – their best run in Primera for 10 years.
Nacional have proved hard to beat this season, only losing so far to Libertad and that was playing most of the second half with ten men. Much of the success has been offensively with only Olimpia and Libertad scoring more goals so far. Bruera is likely to regain his starting spot having scored off the bench and will partner teenager Francisco Morel. Another player that came off the bench to score was Gustavo Caballero who can also expect to be in the starting XI.
Tacuary’s upturn in fortunes has been remarkable with four wins in the last five and conceding just two goals (one a 90th minute equalizer while down to nine men). The experience of Carlos Servín as goalkeeper and Luis Cabral in central defence built a foundation for the more creative players ahead of them such as Lucas Sanabria and Marcos Benitez. They will also welcome back Nery Bareiro, another experienced defender, from suspension this week.
Although Nacional were comfortable 3-0 winners in the previous meeting, there is no doubt this Tacuary team has improved greatly since June. They might not have enough to pick up points but they should be able to frustrate the attacking intent of their rivals for much of the game.
