The 7-1 Indianapolis Colts, who have been one of the big surprises of the NFL season so far, travel to Pittsburgh to take on a 4-3 Steelers team led by Aaron Rodgers. Both teams sit at the top of their respective AFC divisions so this game has a lot at stake, with some elite players involved on both sides.

Daniel Jones 225+ Passing Yards @ 1.40

It turns out all you need to do to revive your career is leave New York. Daniel Jones has a new lease on life in Indianapolis and has shown a level of composure and quality that we only saw very sporadically during his time with the Giants. He’s currently fourth in the NFL in passing yards, averaging 258 per game, and has hit the 225 mark in six of his eight games this year. He’s also seeing stable passing volume, with no fewer than 29 attempts in any game this season, having earned the trust of the coaching staff.

This week he faces a Steelers team that has really struggled against the pass. They’ve allowed 1,913 passing yards this season, which is the fifth most in the entire NFL. Even worse, they’re also giving up a league-worst 273 passing yards per game, at a rate of 7.5 yards per attempt. Jones hasn’t struggled against even the better pass defences in the league this year, so he should carve this Steelers secondary up with ease.

DK Metcalf 40+ Receiving Yards @ 1.33

Things have been a little up and down this season for veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but he’s at least been consistent in targeting DK Metcalf as his number one receiver. The former Seahawk has started well in his new home of Pittsburgh, averaging just over six targets per game, and turning that into 66 yards per game, with five touchdowns on the year. What’s encouraging is that Rodgers isn’t afraid to target Metcalf deep, so he could hit this 40-yard mark in just one or two plays.

He’s helped this week by the fact that the Colts cannot stop the pass. They’ve allowed the third most passing yards in the NFL this season and the eighth most passing touchdowns. They’ve been better against the run, giving up the eleventh fewest rushing yards in the league, so I expect Rodgers to look for Metcalf early and often in this game to keep pace with a strong Colts offence.

DK Metcalf Anytime Touchdown @ 2.40

After six seasons in Seattle, DK Metcalf made the switch to Pittsburgh in the offseason, and the departure of George Pickens thrust him into an undisputed alpha role with very little competition for targets. As a result he’s seen 43 targets through seven games this season, building a strong connection with veteran signal caller Aaron Rodgers. That connection has resulted in five touchdowns for Metcalf through seven games.

The Colts have given up 14 passing touchdowns this season, which is the eighth most in the NFL. As favourites in this game, and given the strength of their offence this season, I expect Indianapolis to put up points fairly easily against this Steelers defence. That means Rodgers might have to sling the ball around to keep pace, leaning on Metcalf and his 6’4 frame to get the job done.

Jonathan Taylor Anytime Touchdown @ 1.36

For the past few seasons, Jonathan Taylor has been held back by injuries and inconsistent quarterback play. This season however he’s been putting on a masterclass, reminding everyone of his elite talent and setting a historic pace amongst running backs. Not only is he averaging 106 rushing yards per game, he has also scored a remarkable 14 total touchdowns in just eight games.

The Steelers run defence is middle of the pack, but Taylor’s rushing yard totals are so high that I think taking him to score a touchdown is the better play here. The Colts shouldn’t have any issues moving the ball down the field against a pass defence that is bottom five in the NFL, so Taylor will have multiple opportunities to get in the endzone again on Sunday, adding to his already remarkable total.
