Plymouth v Watford
📅
Kick Off: Friday 22nd November at 20:00
🏆
Competition: Championship
The first Championship match after the international break sees two former England, and Manchester United and Everton, team-mates do battle in the dugout. It would be fair to say that Tom Cleverley will be the man who is happier with his start to the season as Watford come into this clash in the play-off places whilst Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth are battling relegation.
⭐ Plymouth v Watford Best Bets
Plymouth’s excellent home record makes them quite difficult to oppose in the match market. Performance data and overall results do point to siding with Watford, but there isn’t very much juice in the price, especially when considering that Plymouth are unbeaten in five, winning four, at Home Park.
Instead, we could look towards goals. There have been 22 goals in seven matches at Home Park so far this season. Though the last Plymouth home match ended 1-0, the four before that all saw both teams score and over 2.5 goals. That scenario for this match, against an attacking Watford side who Plymouth could counter against, is an attractive 1.78.
In terms of supporting bets, it is interesting to see Plymouth midfielder Darko Gyabi out as big as 4/1 for a yellow card. The former Leeds man has three cards in the league already, interestingly as well, all three of his previous yellows this season came in the first half of games.
👕 Plymouth v Watford Predicted XI
🔍 Plymouth v Watford Players to Watch
🟢 Morgan Whittaker
Whittaker has been Argyle’s main man from an attacking standpoint since their promotion to the Championship, and his shooting data hasn’t really dropped off in all that time.
He is averaging over 3.2 shots per match this season in the Championship, and this goes up to 3.71 when only considering home matches.
He is also one of the team’s most prolific foulers, and he has three yellow cards this season. He is an all-action player who is central to Plymouth’s work.
Morgan Whittaker to have one or more shots on target, to be fouled and to commit a foul comes in at 2.09.
🟡 Giorgi Chakvetadze
The Georgian is having an outstanding season for Watford. He is a good ball-carrier so will always attract attention from opposition defenders, but, in truth, he has been too good for them in many cases this season.
Regardless, he has been fouled twice or more in a match on four occasions already this season. It seems certain that Wayne Rooney and his staff will have put plans in place to deal with Chakvetadze and his runs, and one suspects that they will want to try and stop him at source.
🟡 Vakoun Bayo
It has been a battle for the Watford #9 shirt all season, but Bayo appears to have nailed the position at this time.
He has taken nine shots in his last three matches, scoring five goals from those shots. In a potentially open and attacking game it is worth looking at Bayo for a goal here as well.

💻 Plymouth v Watford Form and Tactics
Plymouth have continued to their Jekyll & Hyde existence. At home they have won four of their last five, drawing the other, but they remain winless away. This means that the Pilgrims have won only one in their last six, losing three, and drawing twice, including in their last league game v Derby.
The performance data metrics are dire for Plymouth. They sit bottom of the league for xG for (xGF) with only 11.6 xG across 15 matches, and they are also bottom of the xG against (xGA) standings, conceding 26.6 xG.
Watford are only just better off than Plymouth in their xGA, sitting 23rd with 26.1 xG conceded. Therefore, these are the two defences who allow the most goal threat against them in the Championship.
However, as league position would suggest, Watford have been much better going forward, as well as being slightly fortunate not to concede more. Watford are third for xGF, which gives an indication as to how open their matches have been.
Watford have won three of their last four, including a 6-2 win at Sheffield Wednesday, but they have won only two of eight away matches, with six defeats.
