PSG v Reims
Kick Off: Saturday 24th May at 20:00
Competition: Coupe de France
Having made their way into the UCL final too, PSG stand the chance of winning a historic treble if they win on Saturday.
Five of the previous six meetings between PSG and Reims have produced draws, including both clashes this season.
Having finished in 16th position, Reims must take part in a two-legged clash with Metz, who finished 3rd in Ligue 2. On Wednesday, Reims drew the away leg 1-1.
PSG’s points per game average of 3.5 was the highest they’ve managed in a full season since Laurent Blanc’s final season at the club, in 2015/16.
Having wrapped up their league campaign some time ago, ultimately finishing 19 points clear at the top, PSG now face Reims in the Coupe de France, as they aim to maintain their now very realistic treble prospects.
Their opponents, Reims, have endured a highly turbulent campaign, finishing in 16th, obliging them to participate in the relegation play-offs v Metz.
As such, it’s not only PSG who find themselves battling an atypically compact schedule at this time of the year, as the Parisians prepare for their trip to Munich to participate in the Champions League Final against Inter Milan shortly after.
⭐ PSG v Reims Predictions and Best Bets
The expectation that PSG may win by a goal or two is pretty grounded in reality, however, recent form suggests that three may be too high a threshold, and hence backing Reims to win with a +3 handicap looks generously priced at 1.53. This line has landed in each of Reims’ most recent 11, and in 11 of PSG’s last 12.
Additionally, PSG have managed just one win in their previous six meetings with Reims, and with their heads likely turning towards the Champions League final soon after, this looks like a good value option.
Significantly, it also allows for PSG to bag a couple of goals, as they typically do when Ousmane Dembele is on the pitch. Averaging 1.09 goals per game in Ligue 1 and 1.11 in the Coupe de France, you can back him to find a way onto the scoresheet at 1.73.
🔵 PSG Target Historic Treble
Although ordinarily, two losses and a draw in their last seven matches would raise eyebrows, it’s essential to consider that heavy rotation has been a prominent feature in their late-season matches, as they aim to go the distance in all three competitions.
Despite taking their foot off the gas towards the end of the season, PSG’s average of 2.5 points per game in the league is highly impressive, even by their standards. In fact, it’s the highest they’ve managed in a full season since Laurent Blanc’s final season at the club, in 2015/16.
Three wins in their last three imply PSG certainly deserve to be the heavy favourites heading into this clash, and home and away victories against Arsenal would also suggest that Reims are likely to find themselves outclassed on this occasion.
PSG have been a dominant force this season, and Luis Enrique’s men will not underestimate the significance of this clash, as they aim to complete a historic treble in the first season following Kyllian Mbappe’s departure from the club.
🔴 Reims Steady the Ship Ahead of High-Stakes Finish
Although the standards are wildly different, Reims have found form at the right time of the year, putting together a decent run to ensure they stayed ahead of St Etienne in the battle to avoid automatic relegation.
Across their last 11 in all competitions, Reims have remained undefeated in seven, recording four wins and three draws over that period. This represents, by some distance, their best run of performances since the first seven gameweeks, after which point it all went downhill for Les Rouges et Blancs.
Most recently, they earned a draw away from home against Metz in the relegation/promotion play-offs. Although in terms of quality, there are no parallels to be drawn between Wednesday’s clash and this one, it could be a much-needed confidence booster.
📊 PSG v Reims Head-to-Head Key Stats
Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, PSG have endured consistent issues in opening up Reims, both this season, and in those previous.
Remarkably, PSG have managed just a single win against Reims over their last six attempts, with each of the remaining five matches producing draws. That includes both of this season’s league showings, with the pair both resulting in 1-1 draws, with little to separate the teams on both occasions.
In their most recent clash, PSG created just 1.25 xG, only marginally more than Reims’ 0.97, despite the Parisians having 78% of possession in the game at the Parc de Princes.
