Rangers Double Chance @ 1.44

I think Rangers can build on their 2-0 win over Hibs on Saturday by at the very least avoiding defeat against Genk on Thursday night. While the Gers have endured a troubled start to the season, they tend to be a tough nut to crack at Ibrox on European nights.

Yes, Rangers were soundly beaten by Club Brugge in Glasgow in a Champions League qualifier last month; however, Russell Martin did guide his team to home wins over both Panathinaikos and Viktoria Plzen earlier this season. It’s also worth mentioning that Celtic failed to come away from Ibrox with maximum points during the opening Old Firm derby of the season.

Genk have hardly been pulling up trees either this season, winning just two of their opening eight Belgian Pro League matches of the campaign, losing each of their last two. Thorsten Fink's team also lost the second leg of their Europa League qualifier with Lech Poznan last month, further suggesting that they could come unstuck in Glasgow.

Both Teams to Score @ 1.53

Thursday night’s clash at Ibrox has all the makings of an entertaining game, with both teams to score looking well worthy of support. Genk’s games have been particularly goal-heavy this term, with the visitors scoring in nine of their 10 matches across all competitions this season.

That can be attributed to BTTS paying out in seven of Genk’s opening eight Belgian Pro League games of the season. On top of that, there were also goals at both ends in each leg of the Belgian outfit’s win over Lech Poznan in the play-off round.

While Rangers carry the necessary attacking threat to breach Genk’s backline, I suspect the Scottish giants could struggle to keep the back door shut. Russell Martin’s side have looked suspect at the back throughout the season, with both teams contributing to the scoring in three of their last five continental contests.

Djeidi Gassama to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.30

Djeidi Gassama has been one of the few shining lights for Rangers this season. The former Sheffield Wednesday winger has netted four goals and registered one assist across his 12 appearances since making the move to Glasgow. Moreover, each of those four goals arrived during Rangers’ Champions League qualifying campaign, three of which were at Ibrox.

While Gassama has yet to open up his account on the domestic scene for Rangers this season, he has posted a shot on target in three of his five outings in this season’s Scottish top-flight, including two of his last three appearances. With that in mind, the 22-year-old forward looks well worthy of support to work Genk’s goalkeeper at least once on Thursday night.

The Belgian outfit have been giving up plenty of chances this term, failing to silence their opponents in each of their opening eight Belgian Pro League matches of the season.

Hyeon-gyu Oh to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.44

Look to Hyeon-gyu Oh to also hit the target at least once at Ibrox on Thursday night. The South Korean striker is expected to spearhead Genk’s attack, and he could get some joy against a Rangers side that have looked shaky at the back throughout the early months of the season.

The powerful striker has tested the opposition goalkeeper at least once in each of the six matches that he has started in this season’s Belgian Pro League. In fact, Oh registered multiple on-target efforts in four of those six starts, two of which were away from home. It’s also worth noting that the 24-year-old attacker scored during the first leg of his side’s Europa League qualifier with Lech Poznan.

I think Oh could also be extra-motivated to make his mark at Ibrox on Thursday night, given that he used to play across the city for Celtic, and that only adds to the appeal of supporting this selection.

Bojan Miovski to Score Anytime @ 2.60

I think Bojan Miovski offers value in the anytime goalscorer market on Thursday night. The North Macedonian striker opened up his account for Rangers during Saturday’s 2-0 win over Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup.

I saw a fair bit of Miovski during his time at Aberdeen, and he is a real poacher, with a fantastic knack for finding and exploiting space in and around the penalty box - as he demonstrated last time out. Miovski should come into this clash brimming with confidence, and there is plenty of scope for him to grab another goal here against a Genk side that have been leaking goals at an alarming rate this season.

Thorsten Fink’s team have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight Belgian Pro League outings this term, conceding multiple goals in half of those matches. What’s more, Genk’s backline was breached in both legs of their Europa League play-off tie with Lech Poznan.

Nicolas Raskin to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 3.00

Nicolas Raskin offered a timely reminder of how just influential a figure he is for Rangers during Saturday’s 2-0 win over Hibernian. The Light Blues midfielder grabbed the opening goal of the game, and shortly afterwards, it was his cross that contributed to Bojan Miovski making it 2-0.

Raskin is the epitome of a box-to-box midfielder, often arriving late in the final third, not to mention he also offers an aerial threat despite his diminutive figure. The 24-year-old demonstrated that during the home leg of Rangers' Champions League qualifier with Panathinaikos, registering two on-target efforts during that contest. In addition to that, Raskin also hit the target once or more in four of his final six appearances for Rangers during last season’s Europa League.

I also suspect Raskin will be eager to make an impression against a team from his homeland on Thursday night, so with all things considered, he looks a touch too big to hit the target on at least one occasion here.

Zakaria El Ouahdi to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 3.00

Another player who stands out for a minimum of one shot on target at Ibrox on Thursday night is Genk’s Zakaria El Ouahdi. The marauding right-back has impressed with his attacking contributions during the opening eight rounds of fixtures in this season’s Belgian top-flight, hitting a quietly impressive four goals across his eight appearances to date. It’s no flash in the pan either as the Moroccan also chipped in with eight goals across his 40 appearances for Genk in all competitions last season.

Despite their sluggish start to the season, Genk should have the tools to manufacture opportunities against what is a brittle Rangers backline, making El Ouahdi an appealing option to hit the target at least once here. The 23-year-old has registered multiple on-target efforts in five of his last 10 appearances in the Belgian Pro league, further strengthening the case for a solitary shot on target from him when faced with what is a fragile Rangers team.

📈 Rangers v Genk Form & Tactics

Rangers eased the pressure on manager Russell Martin with a 2-0 win over Hibernian at the quarter-final stage of the Scottish League Cup on Saturday. That was just Rangers' 4th win from 13 matches under Martin’s guidance, snapping a five-game winless run in the process. The Gers boss will be hoping that victory will act as a springboard for further improvement in the weeks and months ahead, following such a turbulent start to his tenure.

Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin came back into the side on Saturday and produced a man-of-the-match performance, scoring the opening goal of the game and then playing a key role in the build-up to the Gers’ second goal.

Rangers manager Martin has opted for a 4-3-3 formation more often than not since taking the reins at Ibrox in the summer, with a big emphasis for his side to play out from the back.

Much like Rangers, Genk have also endured a rocky start to their domestic campaign. Thorsten Fink’s team have taken top honours from just two of their opening eight Belgian Pro League matches of the season, losing each of their last two. In fact, a points return of eight from a possible 24 currently has Genk residing in the relegation zone.

Genk produced their best performance of the season during the away leg of their Europa League play-off tie with Lech Poznan when putting the Polish side to the sword 5-1. However, a 2-1 loss at home in the second leg typified the Belgian outfit’s inconsistent start to the season.

Fink’s preferred system is a 4-3-2-1, with both full-backs given plenty of licence to get forward.
