Accrington Stanley v Burton Albion
🏟
Saturday 13th August – 3:00PM KO
Accrington Stanley have made a promising start to the League One campaign despite losing some key players in the summer transfer window. Accy created the better chances in their 2-2 draw at home to Charlton Athletic on the opening weekend, and picked up three points to a 1-0 scoreline at Shrewsbury Town last time out in the league.
John Coleman’s men are in a spot of bother with their injury list, losing Jay Rich Baghuelou for the rest of the season recently, while Touray Sisay, Michael Nottingham and David Morgan are also on the treatment table.
Burton Albion’s season could not have started much worse with no points, zero goals scored and seven conceded from their opening couple. While the Brewers crashed out of the Carabao Cup to Rochdale in midweek, with Dale a side some can see battling against relegation in League Two.
The uncertainty over Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink’s future this summer appears to have negatively impacted the team, and they have not strengthened in the transfer market to the same extent of other clubs around them. Conor Shaughnessy will miss this one through suspension with the hosts going in as value favourites and I thoroughly expect them to get the job done on Saturday afternoon.

Prediction: Accrington Stanley to Win, 1.91 on Betfair (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
Sheffield Wednesday v Charlton Athletic
🏟
Saturday 13th August – 3:00PM KO
Both sides have four points from their opening two games and were victorious over Championship sides in midweek. The Addicks claimed their first league win of the Ben Garner era against Derby County last weekend, but were very fortunate to do so. Charlton relied on poor finishing from the Rams to go in at half time 0-0, and conceded 3.23 xG in their opening game of the season at Accrington Stanley.
Mandela Egbo, knee, and Conor McGrandles, concussion, will likely miss the fixture while Chuks Aneke is a doubt. The Addicks did put in a much-improved display against Queens Park Rangers in the cup, and have an additional 24 hours to recover for the trip to Hillsborough, than the Owls do hosting it.
Akin Famewo and Michael Smith are unavailable for Wednesday and they too were arguably fortunate to keep a clean sheet at Milton Keynes Dons last weekend. Wednesday could be a bet to win the game but are slightly short, with an element of unpredictability still surrounding the Addicks who have the attacking quality to hurt any side in the division. The Owls are rightful favourites but have not been wholly convincing defensively, both teams to score at evens is a nice value bet.

Prediction: Both Teams to Score, 2.0 on Betfair (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
Derby County v Barnsley
🏟
Saturday 13th August – 3:00PM KO
The continuity of keeping Liam Rosenior in place in the dugout seems to be paying dividends for Derby County at the start of this season. The Rams have put in two very strong performances in the league so far, despite falling either side of 1-0 scorelines.
The Tykes on the other hand seem to be suffering more of a relegation hangover. They only narrowly got past a poor-looking Cheltenham Town side last weekend, and travel to a Derby County side that outclassed them in their last head-to-head.
James Chester is out for the hosts, but David McGoldrick is available to make his debut for the club. James Collins is yet to get off the mark as the club’s first choice number nine, but it only feels like a matter of time with the former Luton Town man ruing missed chances from last weekend’s defeat at Charlton.
In Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Conor Hourihane the Rams have too players with quality above the level, if they can keep them fit.
Michal Helik, Herbie Kane and Matty Wolfe are sidelined for the visitors while Nicky Cadden is a doubt.

Prediction: Derby to Win, 1.85 on Betfair (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
Wycombe Wanderers v Shrewsbury Town
🏟
Saturday 13th August – 3:00PM KO
Wycombe Wanderers welcome Shrewsbury Town after a humbling 3-0 defeat at Bolton Wanderers last weekend. The Chairboys got up and running with a comfortable victory over Burton Albion the week prior, bouncing back from their 2021/22 play-off final loss to Sunderland, but they came back down to earth at The UniBol. Wanderers are expected to be in and around the promotion mix this season so it is not too much of a concern that they lost the game, but Ian Evatt’s men did carve them open with ease at times.
Shrewsbury tasted defeat for the first time this season at home to Accrington Stanley in their last match. They will be happy to welcome Tom Flanagan back into the fold this week after the Northern Irishman was sent off last time out, but the red card has been rescinded on appeal making him available for the trip to Adams Park. Elliott Bennett and Aiden O’Brien are sidelined for the visitors, and Wycombe have been running a bit hot and cold in front of goal in the league and the cup. Therefore, for a third successive week, I am tipping up unders in a match involving Steve Cotterill’s Shrews.
