Swindon v Bristol Rovers
🏟
Saturday 22nd January – 12:30PM KO
Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers have both been in hot form in front of goal of late so goals should be aplenty in the League Two early kick-off on Saturday.
The hosts go into the game currently sat in the play-offs and have scored 39 goals in 24 games so far this season, with only table toppers Forest Green Rovers and 3rd place Sutton United managing more.
Ben Garner’s key man is attacking midfielder Harry McKirdy, who has bagged 11 times so far this term and is one of the in-form players in the division. He even managed to score against Premier League table toppers Manchester City in the FA Cup earlier this month.
Another big threat they have is Ipswich Town loanee Tyreece Simpson, who has 10 goals to his name so far this term.
Swindon have scored 10 goals in their last three games and they haven’t lost at the County Ground since 23rd October against Bradford City.
Bristol Rovers, on the other hand, are proving they can cause problems to other teams over recent times. They have won their last two games and have scored six goals in the process.
Joey Barton’s men have turned a corner after a tough first-half of the season. They hit four past Rochdale on New Year’s Day, narrowly lost 2-1 to Championship side Peterborough United in the FA Cup and then beat a stern Hartlepool United side last time out. Rovers will make the trip to Wiltshire in good spirits this weekend and are likely to score based on their recent matches.

Forest Green v Carlisle United
🏟
Saturday 22nd January – 3:00PM KO
Forest Green Rovers have been the runaway leaders in League Two so far this season and have been unstoppable under Rob Edwards. They have lost just twice out of 24 matches and welcome a Carlisle United side sitting in 19th place to The New Lawn having not lost on home soil since 9th October.
Rovers go into the game after seeing their game against Mansfield Town abandoned on Wednesday and will be itching to get three points on the board with Tranmere Rovers closing the gap to seven points behind them. Edwards’ men are the top scorers in the league having fired a huge 48 goals so far in this campaign. They have the two most prolific strikers in the division with the powerful Jamille Matt on 16 and Matty Stevens on 15.
Carlisle make the trip to Gloucestershire on the back of a drab 0-0 draw against Hartlepool United in midweek and may be without key defender Kelvin Mellor which would be a huge blow. New signing Joel Senior is expected to slot in for him but the youngster is experienced at Football League level having signed from non-league outfit Altrincham.
The Cumbrians are the joint-lowest scorers in the league and are level on 19 goals with lowly Colchester United and Scunthorpe United. Even bottom of the table Oldham Athletic have enjoyed more luck in hitting the back of the net. Their top scorer is winger Jordan Gibson on just five and Forest Green shouldn’t have any problems in beating them in this one.

Barrow v Mansfield
🏟
Saturday 22nd January – 3:00PM KO
Mansfield Town have turned their season around and should extend their decent run of form against Barrow on Saturday. The Stags have been in fine form over recent weeks and have been boosted by the fact they have managed to keep hold of key player John-Joe O’Toole until the end of the campaign amid interest from elsewhere in the transfer window.
The veteran midfielder has played a key role in the Stags’ rise into the play-offs this winter and will use all his experience to help his team see off Mark Cooper’s side this weekend. Mansfield have won six league games on the spin and are the in-form side in the league. In addition, they have won two out of their last three away games so will fancy their chances versus the Bluebirds.
Nigel Clough’s men are also hopeful that key midfielder Ollie Clarke is back fit for this one which would be a big boost. He has been a regular for them this term, making 24 appearances and chipping in with five goal contributions.
Barrow shouldn’t pose too much of a threat to the Stags and have won just once in their last seven league games on home soil. The Cumbrian side are way down in 21st place in the league and are nervously looking over their shoulder towards the relegation zone after just six wins from 24.
Cooper’s men have managed 25 goals during the first-half of this campaign which is one of the lowest returns out in the league. They have also been dealt a blow with Hull City recalling defender Festus Arthur from his loan spell this week. 33-year-old Mark Ellis is the main candidate to take his place in defence, but his lack of pace is something Mansfield could look to exploit.

Salford v Colchester
🏟
Saturday 22nd January – 3:00PM KO
Colchester United are treading shallow waters in League Two at the moment and face a battle to survive this season. The U’s are in dire form and Salford are in buoyant mood after picking up an impressive win away at Port Vale last time out.
Hayden Mullins has been sacked by the Essex club this week with Wayne Brown taking over on an interim basis. The 44-year-old found himself in the caretaker position last year too and won just once in nine games.
Colchester have been dealt a big blow with goalkeeper Jake Turner returning to his parent club Newcastle United. The young stopper made the number one spot his own over the past couple of months. His replacement will be Shamal George, who has leaked 20 goals in 16 games this term.
Salford are taking on a side who have lost their last five league games on the spin and haven’t won a match since 23rd November.
The U’s are also the joint lowest scorers in the whole division alongside fellow strugglers Carlisle United and Oldham Athletic meaning they won’t pose too much of a threat to Salford’s defence.
Gary Bowyer’s side, on the other hand, have seriously boosted their squad by luring Matt Smith to the North-West from Championship side Millwall in a deal that has sent shockwaves through the Football League. The experienced striker has been a regular for the Lions this season, playing 25 times, and should find playing in the fourth tier easier than what he’s been used to.
Salford have also signed Ryan Watson from Tranmere Rovers and Stephen Kelly from Rangers to strengthen their options in midfield.
