Brest have impressed so far in the Champions League, remaining unbeaten through three games.

Their league form isn’t great, they currently sit in 11th place, with FotMob’s Expected Points table suggesting they should be further down the table towards the relegation zone. They do seem to be improving however, with just one defeat in their last six games.

Whilst Sparta Prague sit third in their domestic league, their form of late has been worrying. They have lost four of their last five league games.

We see Brest as the more likely winners of this one.

Mahdi Camara has started 11 of Brest’s 13 games in domestic and European competitions so far this season.

His foul numbers aren’t that eye-catching in Ligue 1, averaging 0.77 per 90, but that increases to 2.75 per 90 in the Champions League, presumably due to the higher quality of opposition.

Kairinen is widely regarded as Sparta Prague’s best player. The left footed central midfielder has already scored two goals in this year’s competition.

The Finland international is a combative player, who is averaging one foul per 90 in the Champions League this season, and posted 1.1 in last season’s Europa League campaign.

This bet would have landed in each of the six games these sides have played in the Champions League group stage this season.

Sparta Prague have scored in all bar two of their games in all competitions, and even one of those would still have covered this bet. Likewise, only one of Brest’s games this season has finished with one goal or less.

Sparta Prague are very opposable given Brest’s performances in the Champions League so far. They are clearly prioritising this competition over Ligue 1 at the moment and that mentality will help their exploits in Czechia.

Quite a straight forward one this, Brest have picked up seven yellow cards so far in the competition, which is more than double Sparta Prague’s three yellow cards.

They’re also committing two more fouls per game than Sparta Prague.

Carrying over a Kairinen foul from level 1, the 25-year-old is at 1.00 fouls per 90 in the CL this term.

The big striker is the focal point of the French side’s attack. Standing at 6ft 5in, he is an easy target for referees and is often penalised when battling for the ball.

He has committed 1.8 fouls per 90 in Ligue 1 this season, and 1.9 last season in the Bundesliga for his parent club Mainz. That threat carries on into Europe, where he is averaging 1.5 fouls per 90.
