👑 St Leger Day 1 Win Double Tips
DESERT FLOWER is an obvious selection in the G2 May Hill Stakes, following a pair of impressive juvenile successes on Newmarket’s July track. The Night Of Thunder filly beat the reopposing Flight in comfortable fashion on debut, prior to defying a penalty in scintillating style, by a whopping six-and-a-half lengths.
Her dam won four Group Two races (up to 1m1f), suggesting the rise to a mile should be easily within reach, and she looks an ideal type to keep progressing.
LYRIC was a shade disappointing at Goodwood last-time-out, in Listed company, but may bounce back in calmer waters here. The son of Too Darn Hot has been given a short break since and switches to a first handicap, which is eyecatching.
He was a convincing winner at Windsor the time before, with that form subsequently boosted by the second, third and fourth winning. It would be a surprise if he wasn’t able to showcase more this time, especially as a thoroughly unexposed type for a top stable.
🐎 St Leger Day 1 Each-Way Trixie Tips
SCATTER PENNY is worth forgiving a downfield run in a similar nursery over 6f at York. The Elarqam filly was a tad slow away for that handicap debut, from an opening mark of 85, following a brace of juvenile wins.
She ran on well towards the finish, suggesting an extra half-furlong would suit, and has scope to resume improvement from a 4lb lower mark.
NAKHEEL was an Ascot maiden winner over 1m2f before a trio of promising Listed efforts, including at York, where she kept on nicely.
Although she has ground to make up with Scenic from last time, Nakheel could progress raised in distance, with cheekpieces on for the first time. She receives plenty of weight from some of her rivals and shouldn’t be underestimated from an each-way perspective.
PROMETHEAN appeals as a rock-solid chance, despite a competitive field assembled for this three-year-old handicap over 1m2f. The David Menuisier-trained youngster could have further improvement, following a highly encouraging runner-up position on handicap bow at Newmarket.
He finished to good effect and, while he might not have been the most straightforward to train, he’s worth keeping on side here, especially moving back up in journey.
🗒️ St Leger Day 1 Each-Way Lucky 15 Tips
Our first selection in our Doncaster Lucky 15 comes in the 13:50, where we have ART DESIGN, who is heading into today after an impressive win last time out.
A two-year-old out of a top yard who has only finished outside of the top three on one occasion when finishing sixth on her second career start. Racing on her nursery debut at Newmarket in August, the filly finished a close third behind a promising filly in Magic Mild, who landed a double on the day. Form that stands up well, Art Design followed up on this performance with an impressive win at Southwell last time out.
After being slowly away and not getting a clear run, she did extremely well to stay on and take the lead inside the final furlong. A gutsy performance from a filly who looks open to further improvement, she should be battling in the business end of today’s affair with only a small rise to contend with.
Our next selection in our Doncaster Lucky 15 is HALLASAN, who has finished inside the top three in all four of his racecourse appearances.
Going off favourite in all four of his starts, Hallasan finally got off the mark last time out at Nottingham when stepping up in trip to 6f for the first time. Racing over 5f in his opening three races, he enjoyed racing over 6f when cruising to a 3 ¼ length victory. Being a gelding out of Pinatubo who was unbeaten over six and seven furlongs, bloodlines suggest he is racing over the correct trip now, and further improvement looks on the cards for this two-year-old.
Securing his first victory last time out, he beat an improving two-year-old in Mukaber who has since gone on to win a class two event by 3 ¼ lengths. Boosting Hallasan’s victory, this puts him in great stead heading into today’s affair and looking for the double.
Next up in our Doncaster Lucky 15, we have OXFORD COMMA, who is looking for the hat trick here today.
A three-year-old filly out of Nathaniel who has only been seen three times in his career but has produced solid performances. Finishing third on his sole start in 2023, he has dominated his two races this year on his return from a six-month break. Landing his first win at Salisbury over 1m2f when cruising to a 3 ¾ length victory, he followed up to land the double at Doncaster in June. Another dominant performance where he won going away by three lengths over a further 1m4f trip, he is racing over a further 1m6f trip here today, which looks right up her street.
Considering how well he has stayed on in her last two appearances, Oxford Comma looks a strong filly who is likely to continue improving and this step up in class today provides a great opportunity for her to land her first group race.
Last but not least, our final runner in our Doncaster Lucky 15, we have FOX LEGACY, who is looking to land a double here today.
A lightly raced three-year-old who has unveiled his full potential this year after an enormous improvement in his racing in a short space of time. After failing to pick up a win in his opening four appearances and his best result being a second at Leicester, he took a two-month break before dominating a handicap at Salisbury last time out. Racing over today’s 1m2f trip, he blew away the field to win easily by an impressive 12 lengths on his first start on quick ground and heads into this race full of promise.
Although snapped up by the handicapper and hit with a 16lb rise after his performance last time out, he still looks to have plenty of scope off this mark as he returns to quick ground again today and demands plenty of respect.
