Wuhan Three Towns v Shanghai Shenhua
🏟
Sunday 2nd July – 12:30PM KO
The top of the table clash is eagerly-awaited. Wuhan are two points clear at the top with the only points they have dropped so far this season came in the earlier game against Shanghai, the surprise package of the year so far. Wuhan were the better team in that game and should have won but conceded a last-minute equaliser.
Wuhan are by far the biggest scorers in the league with 23 goals from seven games, nine more than any other team and 11 more than Shanghai. Yet the two teams also have the two best defences in the league and have conceded just four goals each. This is a game that neither team wants to lose and it is a game in which defences are likely to come out on top.
Wuhan played Guangzhou last time around and didn’t rest many of their big stars with Ademilson and Davidson both starting and Marcao coming on for the last 20 minutes. It was a chance not taken to rest players who have played every game so far.
Shanghai are playing well. They were held to a 1-1 draw last week by their city rivals but were the better team. Defensively, they are very sound, perhaps the best defence in the league. Shanghai’s focus will be on keeping tight at the back and given that Wuhan have been busy and keeping the same team for as many of the games as possible, neither team are likely to risk too much pushing forward.

Shanghai Port v Hebei
🏟
Monday 4th July – 10:30AM KO
Shanghai have been up and down this season but with 10 points from the last five games, are heading in the right direction. Shanghai may have only scored seven goals this season in seven games but have been looking more dangerous in recent weeks.
They were very happy with a point in the Shanghai derby earlier last week and defended very well and kept the ball well, they were just lacking a little creativity going forward. They will have to do without Oscar a little longer but he could be back in a game or two.
Striker Cherif Ndiaye scored again to make it four goals in five games and his physical strength and aerial ability causes lots of problems for defences and that is likely to be the case against Hebei. Hebei may have picked up their first win last time though it was against a Wuhan team who are in freefall. It is unlikely that Hebei are going to be able to handle the striker.
There are financial issues off the pitch however and rumours that Hebei have a question mark over their future, and there are other clubs that have gone under in the past year or two. That is likely to be on the minds of the players, a number of which are inexperienced.
Hebei have yet to keep a clean sheet this season and it is likely that Shanghai will be able to score in this game and score more than once and twice.

Chengdu v Cangzhou
🏟
Monday 4th July – 12:30PM KO
Chengdu have yet to win a game this season but the team have been improving. The first two games ended in defeat but the last five have all been draws. There have been three clean sheets in those five games . The latest was against Beijing and Chengdu restricted the opposition to long-range efforts and in the end, could have won the game.
Three at the back has been working better and better for Chengdu and the wing backs have been able to tuck into midfield to give extra numbers. Lone striker Felipe has been struggling in front of goal but he works hard and provides an outlet. At the moment, Chengdu have managed to become hard to beat but have yet to manage to find a way to score enough goals to win games. That was the case when these two met earlier and it ended 0-0. Chengdu should have won the game comfortably but were unable to find the target.
That should change against Cangzhou this time especially as Cangzhou are low on confidence and are struggling more and more. They conceded early in the last game and ended up losing 4-1 to Meizhou. This is a team that looks like it has forgotten how to win and the only goal they scored came from an own goal.
It is likely to be a tight game with not many goals but chengdu should be able to get in front and that shut up shot to keep Cangzhou out.
