Udinese v Atalanta
🏟
Sunday 9th October – 2:00PM KO
There isn’t anyone who would have expected these two teams to be second and third in the Serie A table heading into Matchday 9. Udinese are of course the biggest shock, but Atalanta are also doing much better than was expected coming into the campaign.
That is what makes this Sunday afternoon matchup one of the most intriguing games of the season do far. Despite both playing very well and acquiring plenty of points, there is still an element of mystery about both.
Neither play in the style that you would associate them with over the last few years. Udinese look expansive and have goals all over the team, whilst Gian Piero Gaseprini seems to have taught his side how to win ugly in the absence of mercurial stars such as Papu Gomez and Josip Ilicic of yesteryear.
Considering the form and the quality that both sides have to use, it would be overly pessimistic to not bet on their being at least a couple of goals here. Udinese are the joint second highest scorers in Serie A this season with 17 and being the home side, they will take the game to Atalanta.
That could play into Atalanta’s hands though as they have become very adept at soaking up pressure and hitting people on the counterattack, especially with Ademola Lookman in the side.

Fiorentina v Lazio
🏟
Monday 10th October – 7:45PM KO
Lazio have very quietly been going about their business so far this season and they now sit in a very healthy fourth place in the table, having won their last three. They have scored 17 times and only conceded five, which is a huge improvement on last season from a defensive perspective.
As for Fiorentina, they are having a disappointing domestic campaign this season so far as they struggle to factor in their Europa Conference League campaign. They sit in 11th place and Vincenzo Italiano can’t seem to get much out of the many undoubtedly talented footballers that they have in the squad.
They are coming off the back of an uplifting 3-0 win away at Hearts in midweek, whilst Lazio could only manage a 0-0 draw at Sturm Graz in the Europa League.
Despite that, it is very easy to picture Lazio turning up in Florence and getting the job done with the likes of Ciro Immobile, Mattia Zaccagni, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic all in very good form right now.
They were very impressive in the 4-0 win over Spezia last weekend and Maurizio Sarri’s side will be looking to put in a similar performance once again against La Viola.
They certainly have enough attacking talent in the squad to get another win on the board.
