Altach v Austria Vienna
🏟
Sunday 7th August – 4:00PM KO
Both teams have kicked off the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign with a draw and a defeat in their opening two games – Altach lost to Hartberg before holding Wolfsberg, while Austria Vienna were beaten by Salzburg before playing out a stalemate with LASK – and yet they are still separated by three points in the table. The Violets remain the only club in any major European league on minus points, having been deducted three points for financial and legal reasons before the season had even begun.
It is touch and go whether Noah Bischof will be available for the Vorarlbergers, with the young forward having missed the past fortnight due to fitness problems. That is a relatively short injury list for Miroslav Klose to contend with as he targets his first-ever win as a senior head coach. Austria Vienna counterpart Manfred Schmid is also a little short in the attacking department, with last season’s top-scorer Marco Djuricin and new signing Marko Raguz still waiting to make their first appearances of the season.
In terms of their head-to-head, the capital club can certainly take heart from the fact that they have a very solid recent record against Altach, having won five, drawn two and lost only one of their most recent eight meetings with the men from Vorarlberg. With that in mind, we are backing the Violets to pick up the win and get themselves on to a positive points tally – but given that Altach have drawn five of their last six home league games, we’d go for a draw no bet rather than an outright win.

Rapid Vienna v Austria Lustenau
🏟
Sunday 7th August – 4:00PM KO
While Rapid Vienna’s start to the season has been slightly underwhelming in terms of performances, they have been churning out the results on three fronts and currently sit top of the Bundesliga on maximum points for the first time in almost two years. Their opponents Lustenau will travel 500 kilometres across country in their first Bundesliga trip to the capital since March 2000, having claimed a 2-1 win over WSG Tirol in the opening game and subsequently lost 1-0 to Ried in the second round of matches.
Although the Green & Whites are still missing former Barcelona playmaker Yusuf Demir and fellow forward Ferdy Druijf, their injury list has almost halved compared to the end of last season and that will be hugely important for Ferdinand Feldhofer’s men as they try to balance their European exploits with their domestic duties. Lustenau boss Markus Mader is still a bit shorn of options in the midfield department, with the duo of Daniel Tiefenbach and Adriel yet to return from injury.
Rapid Vienna have won all of the last four Bundesliga meetings between the two teams without conceding a single goal – though that is perhaps not the most reliable indicator of how this game will pan out given that all of those previous clashes came at the turn of the century when Lustenau were last in the top flight. Nonetheless, we still do expect the Viennese to come out on top in this one and kick off the season with three wins on the bounce for the first time since the 2015/16 campaign.

WSG Tirol v Austria Klagenfurt
🏟
Sunday 7th August – 4:00PM KO
Having narrowly lost to promoted Lustenau on the opening day, WSG Tirol showed the fighting spirit that saw them finish top of the Qualification Round last season as they came from behind to beat Hartberg 2-1 courtesy of a winner from Tim Prica, who has now notched two goals in two matches. Austria Klagenfurt have had a particularly difficult start to the season with games against LASK and Rapid – both of which they have lost – but will be hoping to get off the mark in Tyrol, where they won last season.
In fact, the Carinthian club won both Bundesliga clashes with the Tyroleans in their promotion season – but will need to pull off a top performance if they are to replicate that feat at the Tivoli Stadion this coming weekend: WSG Tirol have won five of their last six Bundesliga home matches, their best run of form in front of their own supporters since they came up to the top flight in 2019. On the flip side, Austria Klagenfurt have won only one league game on their travels this calendar year.
That would suggest that Thomas Silberberger, the longest-serving coach in the division by some distance, and his charges are perhaps the slight favourites for this game. But the fact remains that these are two evenly matched teams who finished directly next to each other in the table last season – Tabellennachbarn, or table neighbours, as they call them here in Austria. With that in mind, we’d encourage you to back both teams to score. WSG are without a league clean sheet in eight games, Klagenfurt in 14 games.
