Sonderjyske v Odense
🏟
Sunday 10th April – 1:00PM KO
The tale of these two teams this season in the Danish Superliga has been nothing short of miraculous, for all the wrong reasons. Both Sonderjyske (SDK) and Odense (OB) find themselves in the Danish relegation playoff group and both also find themselves in the semi-final of the Danish Cup against each other. SDK are slumped right at the bottom of the table having won only 2 league games all season and also scoring only 18 goals along the way. This means with 9 games remaining in the league SDK are 8 points adrift of safety. The likelihood of survival based on their league form is almost nothing, especially considering they only have 13 points to show for all their efforts. There has just been too much discomfort around the team when they last won a league game back in September against Brondby of all teams, four of that starting 11 are no longer at the club and striker Taiwo who scored the winning goal that day, hasn’t scored since.
OB have been the most inconsistent team in the league. They have good players across the park and in another season would have finished far far higher, but the inconsistency is clear to see. In July last year, they went away to Midtjylland and won! Which they then followed with seven league games without a win. Ironically that win, was their only away win all season. Which has been a key factor in where they are today. SDK and OB have played each other in the relegation group six times in the past and have an even spread of 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses each.
I’ve gone for both teams to score in this game which may be a surprise given the lack of goalscoring form of SDK, but the working is simple. With 33 goals, OB are actually the 5th top scorers in the league this season and had it not been for their defence their league position might replicate that. Their goalscoring from the likes of Issam Jebali (6 goals + 3 assists) and Mads Frokjaer-Jensen (5 goals + 3 assists) mean they are very unlikely to be relegated and will likely to be concentrating on their DBU Pokalan tie against SDK later this month, a competition they genuinely could win.
This leaves the door open for SDK as the bottom club to come forward without worry, they have nothing to lose, and this showed in their last game against Viborg where they lost 2-1 but took 13 shots with six on target. They are having to fight for survival and with Henrik Hansen at the wheel (The OB assistant coach until January) the squad should have a good knowledge of how to get round OB. Meaning goals for both sides is surely on the cards.

Silkeborg v Brondby
🏟
Sunday 10th April – 3:00PM KO
After a rocketing second half of the season, where Brondby went from rock bottom to title challengers in a matter of months, the Yellows have been very disappointing coming into the postseason. The stats had been saving the side, making them look better than they are, but they have clearly lost something, as they have fallen back into the way they were playing at the start of the season, and trust me, that wasn’t good. What have they lost? Well, that’s simple, they lost their top goalscorer, Mikael Uhre in January. And when you have a winter break over that period, coming back to the season without your main man can cripple you. In the six league games before he left, they scored 12 goals, in their six league games since he left, they have scored six.
Silkeborg are 4th top scorers in the league, they have just come out of a five goal thriller against Midtjylland, so why do I think they are going to go the other way this match? I believe that Silkeborg have exhausted their supply, that game v Midtjlland was so energetic and at such a high tempo, that to come away with nothing will have been devastating to the squad. Also history dictates that over the past season whenever they play in a game with high goals, the next match is almost always the reverse. 4-1 win v Viborg then 1-1 with Odense. 4-1 win v Nordsjaelland then 1-1 with Viborg, 6-0 win v SonderjyskE then 0-0 with Kobenhavn. 4-1 win v Aalborg then 1-0 loss v Brondby.
To me this game has all the feelings of a stalemate, they are two teams who’s results in the future could have a big impact on who may go on to win the whole league, but against each other they are simply fighting for pride. Neither side could buy a win at the moment and to be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if a single goal was all that separated the two sides could the end of Sunday.

Copenhagen v Midtjylland
🏟
Sunday 10th April – 5:00PM KO
Arguably the two biggest sides in Denmark right now, 1st v 2nd , Blue v Red. The match between Copenhagen and Midtjylland always swings one of two ways. It’s either an unstoppable game with goals galore or the game becomes a literal fist fight with some kind of controversy surrounding the result. You only have to look at the last four fixtures to know that. Their last match, 1-0 Kobenhavn, and 95th minute winner from Babacar despite only 4 minutes added time. The game before, 1-0 Midtjylland despite having a goal ruled out by VAR and also having a man sent off in the first 30 minutes. Then look to last season’s Championship group. 4-2 Kobenhavn and the game before that 4 -1 Midtjylland. The trend continues, look at any fixture in the last 10 years, you’ll see the same theme. The only variable, which team comes out the other side as the winner.
This season has been Kobenhavn’s season for sure. Only two losses all season, most goals scored, least goals conceded the stats go on and on. Any attacking stat you can think of, they are top of is. Even after losing the awesome talent that is Jonas Wind to the Bundesliga the club haven’t stopped scoring and they haven’t stopped winning and the reason is, they know how to win, they have a set system of either 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1 depending on where they feel more coverage and with the forward four interchanging and switching throughout the match anyone can score at any time. That scorer likely being either, Mukairu, Bardghji, Biel or Babacar.
Unfortunately for the Midtjylland faithful, I can’t see them winning this one. They might want revenge after the 95th minute loss in the previous fixture but Kobenhavn’s defence is simply too strong and will more than likely keep Midtjylland at bay whilst the fluid attacking system does it’s job.
