Leicester v Brentford
🏟
Sunday 20th March – 2:00PM KO
A game with two rather poor defensive units is always a recipe for goals, particularly when the home side in Leicester are returning from an away trip to France in midweek and should be worn out.
A quick turnaround for the home side after a 2-1 defeat in Rennes saw them progress to the Europe League quarter finals. Seeing Wesley Fofana score after that horrific leg break was a pleasant sight for all fans and I expect him to be back to his best soon, which Leicester desperately need. Leicester have regressed this season, particularly defensively, shipping 45 goals already.
It was an efficient 2-0 win for Brentford last time out over relegation threatened Burnley and Ivan Toney is hitting his stride at the perfect time. Brentford were in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle, but his brace means they can move level on points with their hosts if they win today.
8 PL sides have BTTS land at over a 50% rate and both these sides land in that bracket with Leicester having the highest rate in the league. Usually I would be reluctant to gamble on an out of form away side to score but they are a set piece threat and possess height going forward in the form of Ivan Toney. Leicester fans don’t need reminding about their defensive fragility in the air and particularly from set pieces which should be a great outlet for Brentford. Scoring 40 goals in 26 games and with the depth in quality Leicester have, I expect them to score at least one against a weak Brentford back line, susceptible against pace.
The reverse fixture ended 2-1 to Leicester back in October and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the same score line today with the attacking quality on show.

Spurs v West Ham
🏟
Sunday 20th March – 4:30PM KO
“Super” Sunday treats us to a London derby as a buoyant West Ham side travel to The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as European Quarter-finalists. In the Europa League, goals from an emotional Yarmolenko and Tomas Soucek meant the Hammers overturned a first leg deficit and put the Hammers in the hat for the next round.
Moyes is working wonders with this West Ham side, sitting with 48 points and a game in hand on their hosts, whilst maintaining European form and only being knocked out of the FA Cup in the 5th round. It’s a credit to Moyes and West Ham that they are still performing well but I expect them to struggle on Sunday.
Since Conte’s arrival, Spurs have outrun every side in the league leading distance covered and allowing them to set the tone for the game. Merely 3 days before this game, West Ham have just played 120 minutes against Sevilla with a full strength lineup. A fatigued Hammers side will struggle to attack with intensity and struggle to stay resilient against record breaker Harry Kane.
Spurs’ home form this season is superb with 8 wins in 13, the 4th highest total in the league, only trailing sides in the top 4. They have also dealt with a managerial casualty in this time which makes Conte’s Spurs look even more impressive. Every week, I mention the abilities of England skipper Kane and every week he proves me right, notching up another goal against Brighton last week.
I like Spurs in this game, particularly with their intensity, to overrun the West Ham side today. Spurs operate with wing backs who should be fitter than the West Ham wingers who played significant minutes on Thursday. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a source for goals with either full back setting up Kane.
