📂 Sunderland v Arsenal Cheat Sheet
📈 Arsenal v Sunderland Form & Stats
It wasn’t the most enterprising game against Chelsea midweek, but Mikel Arteta won’t mind that. His side were able to secure a 1-0 win against Chelsea, with Kai Havertz scoring the only goal of the game to book Arsenal a spot in the EFL Cup final.
After suffering their first home defeat of the season against Man United, the Gunners deserve credit for their recovery. They bounced back with a 3-2 win against Kairat in the Champions League, to maintain a perfect record and secure top spot. Arsenal followed that up with a clinical display against Leeds in the Premier League last time out, coming away with a 4-0 win thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus, Viktor Gyokores, Noni Madueke, and Zubimendi.
The Gunners are sitting top of the table with a six-point lead over Man City, so they will hope for that gap to increase this weekend. Meanwhile, Sunderland’s win over Burnley last time out was just their second in the last eight games. It was a much-needed three points for the Black Cats, lifting them back into the top half of the standings and in contention for a European finish.
Not many would have predicted Sunderland doing so well this season, but they are just four points behind Chelsea.
📔 Arsenal v Sunderland Formation & Team News
The one negative from the result on Monday night was that Omar Alderete had to be replaced late on with a suspected injury. The Paraguay international has emerged as doubtful for this clash, and Luke O’Nien could deputise at the back if he is ruled out.
Other than that, it should be an unchanged lineup for Sunderland, with Brian Brobbey to lead the line. Noah Sadiki and Enzo Le Fee should partner up in midfield, with Habib Diarra on the right wing, and Chemsdine Talbi on the opposite flank. Both players were reintroduced to the eleven at the weekend, and chipped in with a goal each against Burnley.
Mikel Arteta made a few changes midweek, with Riccardo Calafiori and David Raya dropping to the bench. Kai Havertz could lead the line here against Sunderland, while Leandro Trossard also looks set for a return in place of Gabriel Martinelli. Jurrien Timber shook off any injury doubts to start against Chelsea, but Bukayo Saka is unlikely to feature.
