West Ham finally ended their winless Premier League streak at the weekend, as they beat London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Hammers still remain five points adrift of safety, but they will hope to use that positive result to build some momentum. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men face Sunderland in the early kick-off this Saturday.

📈 West Ham v Sunderland Form & Tactics

West Ham have endured a tough season so far, and they currently find themselves firmly planted in the relegation zone. The Hammers have lost 13 of their 22 Premier League games this season, with 44 goals conceded ranking them statistically as the worst defensive side in the top flight. Still, there is some hope for West Ham fans that their side can escape the drop - they are just five points behind Nottingham Forest, with 16 games still left to go.

Sunderland’s recent form also hasn’t been too impressive, but the Black Cats are sitting much more comfortably in the top half of the standings. Regis Le Bris’ side made an excellent return to the Premier League and were even in the top four in November.

Since December, however, Sunderland have won just two matches across all competitions, which were both at home. They have been a tough side to beat at the Stadium of Light this season, boasting an unbeaten record of six wins and five draws in the league. On the road, the Black Cats haven’t quite been as effective and have only won two of their eleven matches. Most recently, they were beaten 3-0 by Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

📔 West Ham v Sunderland Formation & Team News

It is worth noting that Sunderland were without key players in that match, though, with Reinildo and Noah Sadiki both unavailable due to AFCON, while Wilson Isidor also missed out through injury - all three are available this weekend. Enzo Le Fee looks set to start in an advanced midfield spot, with Mundle out on the left, preferred to Simon Adingra. If Nordi Mukiele starts at right back, Trai Hume could continue playing more advanced, out on the right flank.

With no fresh injury concerns from last weekend, Nuno Espirito Santo is likely to select an identical eleven. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has made a welcome return at fullback, meaning Oliver Scarles should feature on the left. El Hadji Malick Diouf could also be in contention to start after securing the AFCON title with Senegal. Mateus Fernandes and Tomas Soucek look set to partner up in midfield, with Pablo Felipe playing further forward.

📊 West Ham v Sunderland Key Stats

  • Sunderland have failed to win any of their last 7 away matches.

  • 3+ Cards have been shown in each of West Ham’s last eight home games.

  • The Hammers have picked up 5+ corners in 11 of their 12 matches at the London Stadium this term.

  • Sunderland have conceded 4+ shots on target in 10 of their 11 away games this campaign.

  • West Ham have failed to keep a clean sheet in all 12 home matches this season.
