Race: 14:25 Goodwood
Horse: Sicilian Defence
Prediction: E/W
Odds: 21.0
SICILIAN DEFENSE could be one at a huge double-figure price, who has the ability to be involved at the finish of this Group 3 prize. Trainer, Yann Barberot, has stated that he isn’t bothered by her wide draw as she is a hold-up horse. Soft ground is no inconvenience and she has some classy form to her name, including a running-on fourth at Longchamp in this company earlier in the season, despite a troubled passage. She is a strong-travelling type, who is likely to smoothly swing into contention, and offers frame appeal if getting the gaps at the right time. Group 1-winning jockey Alexis Pouchin takes the ride.

THERE’S THE DOOR returned to form with an excellent third in a strong Ascot handicap over 1m4f last month. The Starspangledbanner progeny should benefit from the ease in distance and will be advantaged by the rain expected to fall – she pulverised her rivals in a Doncaster handicap on soft ground in April. She’s berthed in a handy stall, too, offering solid each-way claims.

SEA GARDENS looks to have been given a lenient handicap mark of 83, following three respectable and encouraging maiden runs. His third behind Narmar (now rated 94) at Listowel in June offers a big clue as to how well handicapped the son of Siyouni may be. He’s also been gelded since that last effort and has first-time cheekpieces, which could also prove to be a catalyst for improvement.

RHOSCOLYN rates an obvious contender on the pick of his old form – 5lb below his previous winning mark, which did come in 2021, but he’s performed with credit in tough handicaps, and boasts an excellent course record. A trio of top-three efforts at this track indicate his appreciation for a downhill venue and crucially has course-winning form on soft ground. Oisin Murphy is also an eyecatching jockey booking.

A couple of unexposed chasers catch the eye in the feature race of the day – the prestigious Galway Plate handicap chase over an extended 2m6f. The Gordon Elliott-trained ASH TREE MEADOW is the first selection. The seven-year-old performed admirably, when fourth in this race last year as a novice (only 1lb higher here), and is likely to have been primed to go close after a recent hurdle and flat pipe opener. Jockey Danny Gilligan, who rode a winner at this track on Monday, takes off a handy 7lb too, which boosts confidence.

ENNISKERRY is arguably the most interesting runner in the race, as a second-season novice for trainer Barry Connell. He brings course-winning form to the table, having made all to easily land a beginners’ chase at this track last term. An impressive scorer of a Leopardstown maiden by six lengths on reappearance, the son of Jeremy is another who appears to have laid out for this challenge.

A lightly raced six-year-old who is coming into her best career form of late. Only failing to make the placings on one occasion this year from five starts. Recording back-to-back wins of late, she is looking for a hat-trick here today. Five previous runs over 7f have seen White Moonlight win three and with ground conditions no issues here today, she should go well off a big price.
Oisin Murphy is taking today’s ride for the first time since 2019. A great track to have Murphy riding, considering he is the only jockey who has returned a profit over the last five years (203 races) when running at Goodwood. A perfect mount booked for a mare in great form. Should go close today and with Paddy Power offering an extra place in this race, we have four places to play with today.

Staying at Glorious Goodwood for our next free horse racing tip of the day, next up we have PADDINGTON, coming in with a Racing Rating of 15. Joint top-rated for today’s affair with Inspiral. However, it is impossible to ignore Paddington’s run of form made the decision easy today. A young three-year-old boasting incredible form. Racing seven times in his career, coming fifth in his first-ever start, he has now gone on to win six races in a row. Beating Coronation Cup winner Emily Upjohn last time out, proves the dominant run he is on currently. Winning three group ones in a row since May, he should have no issues recording his seventh victory in a row here today.
No issues with the ground conditions, winning races previously on heavy, soft and good to soft, the superstar acts on all types of ground. Dropping back to 1m today where he has already recorded two wins and Ryan Moore taking his fourth consecutive ride, the duo will be incredibly tough to beat today.

Moving away from Goodwood and heading to Redcar for our next free horse racing tip, we have our top-rated runner of the day, TIFFANY, coming in with a Racing Rating of 18. A three-year-old filly who has shown some great form when introduced to handicaps. Raced four times this year, she came seventh in a maiden on her first start, after a six-month break. Following this run, she went unbeaten and completed a hat-trick four days ago at Newcastle. Wins at Newcastle and Windsor last month, both coming over 1m2f trips, winning both races comfortably she should be able to complete the four-timer here today against weaker opposition.
Ground conditions today could be a slight concern. Unraced on turf slower than good, today’s current good to soft and rain forecast all day, this is new territory for Tiffany. A few rivals who are also untested in soft conditions, the form Tiffany is in, she should still prove strong enough to win today after escaping penalty free from her previous win. Racing off her same winning mark from four days ago.

Moving to Leicester for the final race on the card, last but not least, we have SELENACHORUS, coming in with a Racing Rating of 15. A three-year-old just starting off her career, receiving a mark of 54 for her opening handicap in May, this is a distance memory, now racing off 62. Raced in two handicaps this year, both coming at Leicester. Finishing an unlucky second in a great opening run, followed by a course and distance win last week. Winning last week by an easy 11 lengths, Kieran Shoemark, on his first ride hardly needed to ask her for an effort to kick well clear and win easily. Back in the saddle after the previous performance, it all looks set up for back-to-back course and distance wins.
Her last run here was on softer ground than today where she blew away the field. Slightly firmer ground today won’t cause any issues with a good second here on good to firm. Hard to see what can beat her here today and another dominant performance could be on the cards. 13 points clear in our Racing Ratings of her next rival, could set the tone for today’s race.
