PRAIRIE DIAMOND is worth a place chance at attractive odds. Despite his inconsistent profile, he is a track and trip winner, who has already won at this moderate standard. He disappointed in a Taunton handicap hurdle last month, but he may improve on second run since wind surgery, with the application of a first-time visor. 

I tipped CAPH STAR at this track last-time-out, where he finished 8th. That effort was better than the finishing position suggested, having his second run back after a lengthy absence. A second start for this trainer may be a spark for progress, coupled with a 3lb drop in the weights.

This 1m3f handicap is much more open than the betting suggests, in my opinion. Moment Of Light is 6lb higher for winning here last time, against four potentially progressive types. DEVIL’S PEAK is certainly one who may find improvement this term, having been gelded and now raised in trip, for trainers who arrive in good form. Improvement may also be seen, now trying Polytrack for the first time - as his dam scored on this surface at Deauville.

UNITER is a most intriguing runner for this 6f handicap. The son of Oasis Dream has shown more than it may appear in three handicap starts - including a close-up 6th of seven here last time. He was slowly away that day, before travelling kindly throughout, holding every chance at the furlong pole. He wasn’t beaten far and could progress, eased in class, for a new trainer.

BIG BOY BARNEY scored for the first time under rules, when running out a cosy winner in a Huntingdon chase over 2m4f. The Fergal O’Brien-trained Doyen gelding may have clicked into peak form now, despite winning just that small-field event. A 5lb higher mark may underestimate his claims, for a runner who has already proven winning form on decent ground.

BRIGHT LEGEND could get off the mark over hurdles, in what appears a winnable race. The six-year-old has finished in the frame seven times over hurdles, and has the form to land this modest prize, following an encouraging 3rd at Wincanton. He is a reliable type, who is unlikely to find an easier opportunity to win this season.
