I’m taking a chance on the current outsider if the three runners, with MAXIMILIAN, on chase debut. The Adlerflug gelding sets a fairly decent standard from his best hurdling exploits – he was an exceptional second in Grade One company at Aintree two seasons ago.

He returned with a dismal effort at Chepstow in February, but may be able to show more over fences. With concerns over his two rivals – Just Ennemi after a lengthy absence and Western Knight following a poor chase debut – I believe the betting market underestimates my selection’s chance.

SERENETTA is taken to score on her second career outing after an excellent debut third at Newmarket. She looked like she would benefit from that introduction, and if she improves even a touch, I believe this race will be within reach.

A half-sister to a pair of Group One scorers, she is also a sister to a winner around this track – which bodes well to land this from a kind draw.

KNOMOREDIAMONDS is certainly worth another chance to prove that his 57-length handicap hurdle victory at Hexham wasn’t a fluke.

Following an 11lb rise for that facile success, the Balko gelding was in the process of running a huge race when returning to novice company at Carlisle. I believe he is capable of going close, if none the worse for unshipping his rider last time out.

MAD MAXIOS ought to prove hard to knock out of the front three, if replicating a fine runner-up position at Warwick. The four-year-old was only having his second start in handicap company that day, and is one of the runners who has scope for improvement, especially from the same mark of 101.

He also attracted plenty of market support last time, indicating that he may well be ahead of his current official rating.

This mile handicap has an open look to it. BRASIL POWER is one of numerous potential each-way players. The son of Dark Angel is a three-time course winner, who arrives on the same mark as when last successful on turf.

He stays further than this trip and would benefit from a strong pace, which does look likely. I expect him to be finishing his race off strongly, and be able to run into the placings.

CARBINE HARVESTER is the clear favourite, in my opinion, to land this sprint handicap. The youngster is a progressive all-weather performer, who has won four from nine attempts on synthetic tracks – including over course-and-distance.

He was a good third here in stronger company last time out and races from the same handicap mark. I expect him to make all of the running, from the perfect low draw of stall one.
