Tottenham v AZ Alkmaar
⏰
Kick Off: Thursday 24th October at 20:00
🏆
Competition: Europa League
In-form Tottenham welcome an out-of-sorts AZ Alkmaar outfit to North London on Thursday evening in what looks like another passable test on the continent for Ange Postecoglou’s Europa League hopefuls. Spurs will be targeting a third triumph in as many UEL group games this week and they are strong favourites to collect three points at AZ’s expense.

AZ Alkmaar are in the midst of a four-game losing slump and everything points to another evening of disappointment for the Dutch side here. Tottenham’s emphatic 4-1 victory over West Ham at the weekend was their sixth win in seven assignments in all competitions and they are backed to have too much class for AZ here.
Tottenham have been averaging 2.71 goals per game since their Carabao Cup win over Coventry in mid-September and they mustered 13.70 in xGF and 109 shots across their last six matches alone.
Nine of the Londoners’ last 10 games have featured over 2.5 goals and Spurs could profit in the final third gain against an AZ team that has lost each of their eight previous European fixtures on English soil. Combining a home win with over 2.5 goals offers top value at 1.83 here.

👕 Tottenham v AZ Alkmaar Predicted XI
🔍 Tottenham v AZ Alkmaar Players to Watch
⚪ Pape Sarr
Senegalese international Pape Sarr has started only twice in the Premier League for Tottenham this season, though he has been an ever-present in the Europe League so far and the 22-year-old has been using his continental appearances as a platform to impress.
Sarr managed to score in each of Tottenham’s UEL victories over Qarabag and Ferencvaros on matchdays one and two, while the midfielder has been averaging 2.63 shots and 2.11 shots on target per 90 minutes in the competition. Eager to catch the eye again against AZ, expect Sarr to find his range at least once again on Thursday.

⚪ Mikey Moore
17-year-old Mikey Moore is considered by many to be the brightest prospect to come out of the Tottenham academy in decades and the young attacker, who was handed his first senior start in Spurs’ win over Ferencvaros earlier this month, could be given another chance to shine against AZ.
Moore made a decent impact against Ferencvaros and the teenager’s light frame and quick feet made him a magnet for fouls in Budapest. The wonderkid was fouled four times on that occasion and Moore could draw just as many from his more physically imposing markers in the AZ ranks on Thursday.

🔴 Peer Koopmeiners
Paired alongside veteran tempo-setter Jordy Clasie, Peer Koopmeiners tends to be the harder-working member of AZ’s midfield duo and the 24-year-old has been averaging 1.78 fouls and 0.56 fouls per 90 minutes in the Eredivisie and Europa League respectively for Alkmaar this season.
Koopmeiners has committed two or more fouls in four of his 11 appearances in all competitions for AZ this term and with the Dutch side likely to be chasing possession and pinned back for large swathes of Thursday’s visit to North London, the anchorman’s foul count could climb again.

💻 Tottenham v AZ Alkmaar Form and Tactics
Tottenham overcame an early wobble to thump London rivals West Ham 4-1 at the weekend in a result that provided the perfect tonic for their capitulation at Brighton the week before.
Spurs have now won six of their last seven fixtures in all competitions and that string of victories included a 3-0 triumph with ten men over Qarabag and a 2-1 success at Ferencvaros in the Europa League, results that left the Londoners in third position in the expanded group ahead of matchday three.
Rotation has been the name of the game for Ange Postecoglou in the UEL and with sweeping changes made to his midweek teams, Tottenham’s performance have been a little disjointed at times. Indeed, Spurs lost the xGF battle in each of their wins over Qarabag and Ferencvaros while they rank a modest 17th for average shots per 90 (13.50) and 14th for average possession (53.5% per game) in the Europa League.
Tottenham have also conceded more attempts (28) than they mustered themselves (27) in the competition so far, so expect Thursday’s game to ebb and flow.
AZ meanwhile, set themselves up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in their 2-0 loss at Athletic Bilbao on matchday two and they managed to clock just two shots on target and an xGF of just 0.40 in that ineffective showing in the Basque Country.
Interestingly, only two clubs have outperformed AZ for xGA (1.60) in the Europa League so far, though keeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro still conceded four goals from just nine shots on target in Alkmaar’s games against Elfsborg and Athletic Bilbao and the inexperienced 20-year-old, who has gone seven games without keeping a clean sheet, might be a weak link again here.
AZ struggled to contain the Williams brothers on the flanks in Bilbao and Inaki and Nico mustered six attempts and completed eight dribbles between them against Alkmaar earlier this month. Wing play might offer Spurs a similar route to success on Thursday.
