Unión Santa Fe v San Lorenzo
🏟
Tuesday 19th April – 8:30PM KO
Unión Santa Fe lost 1-0 against Racing this weekend in the Argentine Primera Division. But, it was a tight game, with neither team really able to dominate. However, it is no embarrassment to play such a game against Racing, because they are playing good football and seem to be the best team in Argentina at the moment. So no reason to panic at Unión, especially since they are still in the race for a playoff spot and only one point behind the top four. San Lorenzo seems a perfect opponent to get back to winning ways because things are problematic for el ciclón.
After a pretty disastrous start to the season, things got tense in Almagro. Manager Pedro Troglio decided to resign and fans were threatening the players because they feel they haven’t shown commitment to the team. The manager and several directors resigned, but things haven’t calmed down yet. They temporarily put youth coordinator Fernando Berón in charge, but the interim doesn’t have any experience as head coach.
Players didn’t come to the match in their own cars last week, as they were afraid they were going to be vandalised by fans. There are also rumours that several of the players are desperate to leave and are using minor injuries as an excuse to not play, although that is hard to confirm. The 2-2 home game against a weak Platense side on Saturday didn’t help to calm down the situation either.
Yeison Gordillo won’t be playing in Santa Fe. The defensive midfielder has been one of the better players this season, but picked up his fifth yellow and is suspended. Gordillo already missed one game this season and in that game their midfield was completely overrun. In other words, almost all the factors speak in the home side’s favour to win this game, if only they manage to score, because creating chances hasn’t been that easy for Unión.

Estudiantes La Plata vs Tigre
🏟
Tuesday 19th April – 11:00PM KO
Tigre are in brilliant form this season. The just promoted side have outdone every preseason prediction and look in a great position to make the play-offs, with a five-point lead over fifth position and only four matches to go. But they are playing a title candidate in this game.
Estudiantes La Plata have already had a really congested season. They played (and won) Copa Libertadores qualifiers and that means they played six matches more than today’s opponents. Nevertheless, Estudiantes have a much bigger squad and despite having rotated in several of the games, they have done brilliantly in both tournaments. They are top of the group, two points ahead of Tigre. Estudiantes had an easy match on Saturday, away at Barracas Central they were up 4-0 within half an hour and could have saved some energy. Left back Emmanuel Mas was sent off in that game and will definitely not be playing against Tigre.
Tigre had a much harder game, they seemed to cruise to a victory just before HT when they thought they scored the 2-0 against Huracán last Friday. However, the goal was ruled out by the VAR and in the resulting scuffles teenage midfielder Ignacio Fernández was sent off. It meant they were on the back foot the entire second half, but just about managed to take the three points.
Estudiantes look steady for the play-offs, so they might rotate some players again, but that hasn’t seemed to bother them at all so far. I suspect they simply are a level up from Tigre, so I’d put my money on a home win here.

Platense vs Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata
🏟
Wednesday 20th April – 1:30AM KO
Platense finally picked up their first point in seven games last weekend. They were down 2-0 early in the game against San Lorenzo, but fought back to get a draw in the second half. Manager Omar de Felippe was generally not too happy about the defence in Almagro and seems to be making two changes in that line. It looks like Haibrany Ruiz Díaz and Augusto Schott will reappear in the starting line-up.
Both defenders played the first three games this season, when Platense picked up seven points, but got injured soon after. Without the two defenders, Platense lost four games in a row and their defence looked awful at times. So, it comes to no surprise that they would reappear in the starting XI the moment they are fit again and that seems to be the case for this game.
Gimnasia climbed up from the bottom of the table this month with two victories in a row, but are not really a contender for the play-offs. Despite having conceded in each of the last four games they played, they didn’t give away many chances and were unlucky to not get a clean sheet in one of those games. Platense increased the quality in their defence with the return of two of their starting players, but aren’t known for their attacking strength. That’s why I expect a tight match with few goals here.
