Newell’s Old Boys v Argentinos Juniors
🏟
Tuesday 21st June – 1:30AM KO
Last game, Newell’s Old Boys were without centre back Cristian Lema because of a suspension and that will be the same for this game against Argentinos Juniors. Lema has been a regular, but his replacement, Victor Velazquez, was chosen man of the match in that last game away at Talleres de Córdoba, so Lema wasn’t missed. That means that Newell’s will probably field the same XI as in that 1-0 victory. Newell’s looked composed, didn’t give away too many chances, even though Talleres were pressing hard, but it looks like Sanguinetti sees no reason for a change.
Argentinos Juniors have had a decent start to the season as well. With six points from three matches (two home victories), they are close to the top of the table. Argentinos have looked really steady in defence, barely give away chances, but they aren’t creating too much either.
That same goes for Newell’s, with Lema or with Velazquez, their defence has been steady. And that is exactly what Sanguinetti is happy about, the fact that they aren’t creating a lot of chances isn’t that much of a concern at this point. So, this game will see two sides who got their defence sorted and neither of the teams really feel the urge to attack relentlessly. Chances are expected to be scarce, that’s why I’d put my money on unders for this game.

Central Córdoba v San Lorenzo
🏟
Wednesday 22nd June – 1:30AM KO
It is never quiet at San Lorenzo, there are a lot of leadership battles going on behind the scenes and as the results haven’t improved from the underwhelming last season, people aren’t happy. With new manager Ruben Dario Insua, San Lorenzo claimed three draws from the first three games and in two of those San Lorenzo didn’t even deserve that point. Agustín Martegani has been one of the few players that makes people go to the stadium. In fact, several Italian Serie A teams want to sign him for the upcoming season. San Lorenzo haven’t agreed terms with any of those clubs yet, but against Central Córdoba they will be without Martegani anyway, as the playmaker picked up a knock and is out for this game.
Central Córdoba have had an inconsistent start to the season, with a victory over last season’s champions Boca Juniors. In the other two games they didn’t get the victory although in both of those games they deserved more. Central have quite a few injuries up front; Sebastián Ribas will be out for a while with a pneumothorax. Claudio Riaño and top goalscorer Renzo López are struggling with fitness as well, but there is a decent chance at least one of the two will play. With Jonathan Bay and Juan Kaprof also back from injury, I suspect Central are the favourites for the victory against San Lorenzo in their current state.
