Notts County v FC Halifax Town
🏟
Tuesday 22nd February – 7:45PM KO
If you wanted to understand how tight the National League is at present, Notts County currently sit in 8th position but could overtake 4th place FC Halifax Town come Tuesday night.
Both sides have had some indifferent results of late. Ian Burchnall’s Magpies have responded well to a three-match winless run by beating Barnet and Eastleigh at home, scoring eight goals in the process and putting themselves back into play-off contention. This will be their fourth consecutive home match in the league and they have the joint-best record on home turf in the division along with Boreham Wood. Halifax, meanwhile, had drawn two, won two and lost two of the six games they played before seeing off Dagenham and Redbridge last time out, just about maintaining their top four position.
It’s been difficult to predict the result of games between top ten sides this season but this should be a lively affair with a few goals. For starters, Notts County have kept just three clean sheets in 14 home matches and just one in eight matches against sides in the top 12. They have also scored in every home match, scoring at least twice in 10 of those games. The visitors, meanwhile, have scored and conceded in 71% of their matches away from home with both teams scoring in five of their last seven.
There is also the stylistic element of County preferring to dominate the ball and Halifax preferring to play in transition. It’s little surprise games between these sides have finished 3-2 and 2-1 this season.

Solihull Moors v Wealdstone
🏟
Tuesday 22nd February – 7:45PM KO
This is all about Solihull Moors and their ability to avoid conceding against the sides below them in the league table.
It’s an incredible record. The Moors have conceded just three goals against sides below 10th in the league table in their last 15 matches – one apiece in victories against Torquay United, Aldershot Town and Altrincham. Their home record is also very impressive overall when it comes to conceding goals. Since the 3-1 victory against Boreham Wood in mid-September, they have played nine league matches, won six and lost two, one being a 1-0 loss against league leaders Stockport County and the other a 2-0 loss against Chesterfield, conceding both goals after having a man sent off.
Wealdstone have done okay of late, beating Barnet and Yeovil Town in back-to-back matches and leading against Wrexham until the 88th minute after having a man sent off. The Stones have also scored in each of their last four matches, something they had managed only once before this season. However, Stuart Maynard’s side have failed to score in seven of their 14 matches against top half sides and six of their ten matches against sides in the top seven, including a 0-0 draw with Solihull Moors earlier in the season.
I’m backing Solihull Moors to continue their fine record of not conceding goals against the sides below them in the league table.

Torquay United v Boreham Wood
🏟
Tuesday 22nd February – 7:45PM KO
It would be tempting for people to write off Boreham Wood after two defeats in three matches but Luke Garrard’s men are third in the league table for a reason.
The Wood have been on a crazy ride in recent weeks, beating Bournemouth in the FA Cup before losing to Wrexham in the FA Trophy. They responded positively with a 2-0 victory against Altrincham before losing to Maidenhead United. However, the Magpies are the scourge of top sides, winning five of their seven home matches against the top seven so it’s not quite as disheartening as it may sound. Boreham Wood tend to respond positively to setbacks – they have not lost back-to-back matches this season. They have won six of their 11 away matches and the defeat against Maidenhead United is their only loss against a side outside of the top seven.
This selection is more about the visitors than the hosts, who have been in decent form of late. They have won seven, drawn two and lost two of their last 11 matches, including victories against Stockport County and Wrexham. However, they did lose at home against Solihull Moors, who are similarly as strong defensively as Boreham Wood, and the two wins mentioned above are their only victories against sides in the top ten.
Luke Garrard likes to talk about “runs of one” when it comes to performances and results and it means they rarely get too high or too low. At 1.57, I’m happy to back them to leave Plainmoor with at least a point.

Weymouth v Bromley
🏟
Tuesday 22nd February – 7:45PM KO
Weymouth’s victory against Eastleigh last time out was their first in three and a half months, or 14 matches.
It was a much needed three points for The Terras in their bid for survival and a first win for David Oldfield since the ex-Oxford City manager took the managerial reins at the Bob Lucas Stadium. However, despite the confidence boost, it did come against an Eastleigh side that are struggling for form, identity and goals currently, as well as having no manager. Their record against sides in the top 12 of the league table reads one win, three draws and 11 defeats. That sole victory came in their fourth game of the season. Their home record against the same opposition reads two draws and five defeats.
Bromley, meanwhile, have largely solidified their spot in the play-off positions because of their ability to beat the sides lower in the table. They have played 11 matches against sides in the bottom ten and won ten, losing only to Maidenhead United, whose home record against the top sides belies their league position. While The Ravens have won just five of their 12 matches on the road this season, four of those have come in the five games played against sides in the bottom half, which is where Weymouth find themselves.
Bromley have lost their last two but they came against the most in-form sides in the division. I’m backing them to get back to winning ways on Tuesday.
