The Sky cameras turn to Vicarage Road on Tuesday night as Reading make the trip to Watford in an intriguing Championship match. Watford have been underwhelming this season with 8 wins from a possible 19 on their return to the 2nd tier of English football. A total which is equal to their visitors who occupy the final spot in the top half.
Both these sides have been inconsistent and relatively unpredictable this season. Reading have struggled to win on the road while Watford have struggled to string together multiple positive performances. This promises to be an enthralling game for the neutral and nerve wracking for both sets of fans who can be hopeful of 3 points. With that in mind, here are my tips for a bet which come together for a 6/1 bet builder.
Watford v Reading Bet Builder Tips
Watford to Win
The Hornets have been underwhelming and at times unpredictable, but Slaven Bilic’s Watford should have far too much quality for Reading on Tuesday night.
It hasn’t be a dull return to the Championship for Watford as they are on their second manager for the season, shock. Rob Edwards was relieved of his duties on the 26th of September, just 10 league games in to the season, much to the dismay of Watford fans who believed the owners were finally behind a young managers’ project. However, Bilic’s arrival has brought positive results such as the 4-0 derby day thumping of Luton Town.
The Hornets have won just 3 of 10 on the road but 5 wins from 9 home games gives me good enough reason to back them today, coupled with Reading only winning 2 away games all season. On their day, they have the quality to breach any defence in this league with the likes of Sarr, Pedro and Keinan Davis. Meanwhile at the other end, they have conceded just twice in 4 games.
As I already mentioned Reading have only won 2 away games all season and have the 3rd worst away record in the league. He scored last game but Lucas Joao hasn’t fired in the championship as much this year with just the 4 goal, all away from home. I hate to call it negative football but Reading’s back 3 tends to switch to a 5 away and I expect them to sit in at Vicarage Road. They can be a tough side to play but the Hornets should have far too much quality for Reading under the lights.

Prediction: Watford to Win
Ismaila Sarr to Score or Assist
As a £30 million signing, Ismaila Sarr has remained Watford’s prized asset and struck fear into opposing defences in both the Premier League and Championship. Liverpool and United have both fallen victim to the Senegalese international as have Reading in the past.
Sarr scored a brace of stunners, one with each foot, last time Watford hosted Reading, so the Royals know they’re in for a tough afternoon. He is also a man in form, with 10 goal contributions in 14 games this season. He has the creativity to provide for Pedro, Davis or Bayo and without Hassane Kamara he will be even more pivotal down the left.
With 2 goals and an assist in 5 games off the left, Bilic has clearly found a way to use his star man. Against a weak Reading back line, Sarr should pick apart the space between Yiadom and Hoilett to cause them all kinds of nightmares and hopefully register a goal contribution.

Prediction: Ismaila Sarr to Score or Assist
Joao Pedro to have 2+ Shots on Target
One of my favourite players in the league and arguably the best player in the league, Joao Pedro has been in dazzling form so far this season, living up to his pre-season hype. Subject to bids from top 4 side Newcastle, Pedro signed a new 6 year deal with the Hornets committing his future to the yellows and being the focal point of their project.
Similarly, Bilic has tried to make Pedro the Starman of his system, giving him the freedom in a number 10 role to use his exceptional ball carrying ability. Averaging 7.8 dribbles per game with a 50% success rate, Pedro is a wonderful get out of jail card for Watford’s aging midfield to transition play.
I believe Pedro will have more space against Reading’s back 5 as they drop deep to cover the speed of Sarr. Give Pedro that space and he won’t be shy at taking a pot shot shown by his 5 shots away at Cardiff in his last 90. 2 of those hit the target and a player of Pedro’s quality should hit the target at least once in his new role. I think it’s exception value at 2.7 for 2 SOT and that’s my final selection.

Prediction: Joao Pedro to have 2+ Shots on Target
